How often should a PS5 SSD be replaced?

I’m a little confused about SSD lifespan on the PS5. Since games are constantly downloading, updating, deleting, moving around, and sometimes recording clips, does that actually wear out the SSD pretty fast?

Do you guys replace your M.2 SSD after a certain number of years, or just keep using it until something starts going wrong? I’ve seen people mention TBW ratings, but not really sure how that applies to a PS5 since it’s not like a PC where you can easily check everything going on with the drive.

Also wondering if having the SSD nearly full makes it wear out faster or causes performance issues. If I keep around 10-20% free space, is that enough?

Would a higher-end SSD with a higher TBW rating actually last noticeably longer in a PS5, or is that mostly unnecessary for normal gaming? Don’t really wanna replace a perfectly good SSD if there’s no reason to.

For anyone who has been using the same M.2 in their PS5 for a few years, how’s it holding up? Any warning signs I should look for before the drive eventually dies?

Does having lots of browser extensions slow down a PC?

Got Chrome with quite a few extensions installed right now and starting to wonder if I’m overdoing it. Some are ad blockers, password stuff, shopping extensions, dark mode, YouTube tools, random little things I barely use anymore etc.

Chrome already eats a decent amount of RAM with a bunch of tabs open, so not sure if the extensions are making it worse. Does every installed extension use RAM/CPU all the time, or only when it’s actually doing something? Also wondering if having like 15-20 extensions installed can make Windows itself feel slower, or if it mainly affects Chrome.

Sometimes Chrome takes a while to open and switching between tabs can feel kinda sluggish, especially when Discord and other apps are running at the same time. Could extensions be causing that or should I be looking somewhere else? I don’t wanna uninstall everything if it barely makes a difference, but also don’t wanna keep a bunch of useless stuff installed for no reason.

How many extensions do you guys usually keep installed? Is there an easy way to see which extension is using the most resources?

I keep hearing about VRR. Is it something I should care about?

My setup is a PS5 Slim connected to a 4K 120Hz LG TV through HDMI 2.1, and the TV says it supports VRR, FreeSync and ALLM. I usually play at 4K with 120Hz enabled, mostly single player games and some shooters, but I don’t really understand what VRR is doing in the background. From what I’m reading, it supposedly helps when the game can’t maintain a steady 60 or 120 FPS by matching the TV refresh rate to the actual frame rate, so you don’t get screen tearing or weird stuttering. But is the difference actually noticeable from the couch? Like if a game drops from 60 FPS to 55 or 50, does VRR make that look way smoother? Also does turning VRR on add input lag, reduce picture quality, use more power, or cause any other downside? I’ve seen people say it’s basically a must-have feature, while others say you barely notice it unless the frame rate is really unstable. Should I just leave VRR enabled all the time in the PS5 settings or only turn it on for certain games?

Does monitor size matter more than resolution?

I’m kinda confused because I see people saying bigger screen is better, but then others say resolution is way more important. Like would a 27 inch 1080p monitor actually look worse than a 24 inch 1080p, or is the difference not that big? And if you go bigger, does 1440p become basically necessary? Trying to understand what actually matters here before buying one. I mostly want it for gaming and normal PC stuff, nothing super crazy. Also does sitting closer to the monitor change how noticeable the resolution difference is? I keep seeing different answers and honestly don’t wanna buy the wrong size/resolution combo. What would you guys prioritize first if the budget is limited?

Should I get a laptop with 16GB RAM or spend more for 32GB?

I’m trying to buy something that’ll last a few years, so not sure if 16GB is still enough these days or if I’m gonna regret not getting 32GB. Main use would be normal stuff like Chrome with a bunch of tabs, YouTube, Discord, Office, some light photo editing, and maybe some gaming here and there. Nothing crazy like heavy video editing or 3D work, but I do tend to have a lot of things open at once lol. The price difference between the 16GB and 32GB models isn’t tiny, so wondering if it’s actually worth paying more for the extra memory. Also, some laptops have soldered RAM, so upgrading later might not even be an option. That’s kinda what’s making this harder. Would 16GB be totally fine for the next few years, or is 32GB becoming the safer choice? Does having 32GB actually make the laptop feel faster for everyday use, or only when you’re doing heavier workloads? Trying not to waste money, but also don’t wanna cheap out now and wish I’d spent the extra later. What would you guys pick if the goal is keeping the laptop for around 4–5 years? Would love to hear what you’d recommend.

Do I need Wi-Fi 6E for a desktop PC?

Looking at a new motherboard and some of them have Wi-Fi 6E built in, but not sure if it’s even worth paying extra for. The PC will mostly be used for gaming, downloading stuff, streaming, and normal internet use. Router supports Wi-Fi 6 but I’m not sure if upgrading the router just for 6E would make any real difference. Ethernet isn’t really an option for where the PC is sitting, so Wi-Fi is basically the only choice. Would Wi-Fi 6E give lower ping or better speeds in games, or is that mostly marketing? Also does 6E have any downsides compared to regular Wi-Fi 6, like shorter range or worse connection through walls? Trying to avoid spending extra money on something I probably won’t notice. If Wi-Fi 6 is already good enough for a gaming desktop, I’d rather just get the cheaper board. What would you guys go with?

How important is VRR when choosing a PS5 monitor?

Looking at getting a new monitor mainly for gaming and I keep seeing VRR mentioned everywhere, but honestly not sure how much it actually matters. Some monitors have it, some don't, and the price difference can be pretty big depending on the model.

I mostly play single player games, RPGs, shooters sometimes, but I’m not really playing competitive stuff where every little thing probably matters. I know PS5 supports VRR, but does it actually make a noticeable difference in normal games? Like if a game drops from 60fps to 55fps, does VRR make that look smoother or is it something you barely notice?

Also wondering if I should prioritize VRR over other monitor features like better HDR, higher brightness, 120Hz, contrast, or response time. I’m trying to stay within a reasonable budget, so I don’t wanna pay extra for a feature that I’ll barely use.

Another thing I’m confused about is HDMI 2.1. Is that required for VRR on PS5, or can HDMI 2.0 monitors still use VRR at 1080p/1440p? Seeing a lot of conflicting info about this.

For anyone who’s used a PS5 with and without VRR, is the difference actually obvious? If you were buying a PS5 monitor today, would VRR be a must-have or just a nice bonus? Any advice appreciated.

How much storage does the average PS5 owner actually need?

I’m still pretty new to PS5 and trying to figure out how much storage I should realistically have. I usually like keeping several games installed, but I’m not sure if the built-in storage is enough for that.

For those of you who’ve had your PS5 for a while, how much storage are you actually using? Do you constantly delete games to make room, or is extra storage pretty much necessary?

Would 1TB be enough for most people, or is 2TB the better option?
