PlayStation is not backing down from getting rid of physical games and has added an "Important Notice" to the PS5's disc drive

It makes sense I guess

I think it’s extremely corny that PlayStation waiting until rockstar announced they will not have any physical copies of gta6 for Sony to announce their departure with physical games. I find it corny people bragged about how they pre ordered a digital game, super corny.. No more kids opening video games on Christmas, no more buying a game you want used for way less, your game no longer holds any value.. the list goes on..

THE TRUTH IS OUT DON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT

This is the real reason

In physical there is competition for best price and good service they gave like many local stores

Imagine not everyone have to pay full price of games after even years

antitrust monopoly with all digital?

Hey everyone...

With the industry pushing hard toward an all-digital future, the lack of competition on the PlayStation Store is starting to feel crazy to me.

If you buy physical games, you get a free market i.e. Amazon, Walmart, and GameStop compete, drop prices, and sell used copies. But the second you go all-digital, Sony has a 100% monopoly. They dictate the price, period.

Remember back in 2019 when you could buy digital game codes on Amazon or Best Buy? Sony intentionally banned third-party retailers from selling them. By doing that, they actively killed off any price competition.

I used to think maybe I was overreacting, but apparently, class-action lawsuits in both the US and the UK are currently suing Sony for billions over this exact thing, claiming it violates antitrust laws and inflates prices.

As physical media slowly dies out, it feels like we’re losing all consumer leverage.

Do you think antitrust pressure will ever force Sony to allow third-party digital stores or code sales again? Or are we just stuck paying whatever they want to charge?

STOP DIGITAL GAMES STOP PS PLUS

Sony has decided that PlayStation games will become digital-only starting in 2028.

If you're happy with that, that's your choice.

I'm not.

This isn't about hating digital. It's about losing the choice to buy physical games. Once they're gone, they're gone forever.

With digital purchases, you don't truly own your games the way you own a physical copy. You lose the ability to lend them, resell them, preserve them, or keep them independently of Sony's ecosystem.

If you want Sony to reconsider, don't just complain.

Cancel your PS Plus subscription when it expires and don't renew it until physical games return.

Companies don't listen to words.

They listen to money.

Here is an example of why Physical is a big issue for somebody in Japan...

In 2024 and after buying my PS5 i got TLOU2 + 2 COD games + FC23 for 15 Euros on a french flea market. Now with their current move adios muchachos, pay the full price or find a new hobby.

Edit: if you did'nt catch the Sony reference in the title i envy your speed.

Over 100,000 PlayStation Fans Sign Petition Begging Sony Not to Kill Physical Games - GameRiv

Petitions rarely work. And Sony definitely isn't changing its mind about this. The only thing they will listen to is money.

Genuine question

Now that playstation is going to be digital only is there any actual reason to buy ps6? I mean console prices are up, more franchises are on PC, stream introducing more ways to play on your TV while also having the best digital store in the business by a mile. Why should I get a PS6? The only thing I can think of are exclusives but I am not that invested in those series to buy a console just for them.

As Sony Kills Physical Discs, An Old PlayStation Account Rule Is Back In The Spotlight - GameRiv

This isn't a new rule, people. Stop panicking. I get why people might be upset over this, but this is a standard practice as far as I know.
