My Terrific Delivrd Experience

In April I decided my lovely wife was due for a new car. Her 2016 Honda Pilot just passed the decade mark, and my seventeen year old has been driving it. She's been driving my F-150, and I had a company car until recently when I took a 100% work from home gig with my company. I told her I’d buy her any car she wanted. She decided on a Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Limited. She wanted a specific interior and exterior color with the panoramic sunroof and panoramic camera. I called a few dealers in the area, and the Hybrids are basically unobtanium. Not one dealer actually had a single Grand Highlander on the lot to test drive. We ended up driving a used one, and she loved it.

The best deal I could get was for $500 off MSRP for a car with the wrong interior color that would be delivered in August. That deal came with a $1,500 "protection package" that I didn't want. I was starting to get aggravated. I’d been watching Tommy’s videos for a while, and I decided to use them.

I contracted with Delivrd back in May. Our first meeting with the consultant was in June, and we talked about exactly what we were looking for and our expectations. Besides the single color and the two options, we also had several options that were “No-Gos” like black wheels and mud guards. I understood that it was going to be difficult to locate a vehicle like this, and I was prepared to have to wait a while.

We were notified about two-weeks later that our deal process was beginning. All notifications were via text with links to a webpage devoted to our deal. We had two deals go into the system quickly. One was the wrong model (HybridMAX) and one had some options we specifically didn’t want. I turned both down. After about 4 days I got a message from our deal coordinator asking to talk. We had a quick call where he talked to me about a deal for the exact car we wanted with a dealership about 1500 miles away. The deal was for $3,497 off MSRP. The only downside was the vehicle was not expected at the dealer for another month. Given it was the exact car we wanted, I was happy. I paid a $1,000 deposit and we waited.

The car ended up at the dealer at the end of July. The process of completing the purchase was totally seamless. The dealership was very helpful, and they didn’t try to up sell us on any add-ons. They even did all the paperwork to register the vehicle. The plate will be mailed to us so we don’t even have to go to the DMV. I paid about 2/3rds up front and financed the remainder with Toyota on a 3 year loan at 4.5%.

The only hassle was shipping. Our Delivrd coordinator hooked us up with an outside shipping coordinator. He set us up with one shipper who fell through at the last minute, and we had to go to a second shipper who ended up having to get a repair on the trailer that cost us a few extra days. The shipping coordinator was great, and Delivrd was also in the loop making sure everything got done. It took a few extra days, but stuff happens.

The MSRP of the car ended up being higher when the car was delivered to the dealer, but they honored the original price. Ultimately:

MSRP with destination: $58,908

My price: $55,200 ($3,708 discount)

Out the door with tax, title, license: $59,662

I paid Delivrd $1,000 and $1,150 to ship the car. Money well spent in my estimation.

Given how little flexibility we gave Delivrd on colors and options, and the scarcity of these cars in my area, I’m extremely happy. I would give them a 9/10. Every person we dealt with was friendly, helpful and I received replies to any questions I had in an expedient manner.

I will use Delivrd next year to buy my son a car. It is worth a grand to avoid the crappy dealer experience.

Accutron Model Number and Battery Question

I'm a bit of a watch collector, and my Dad recently gave me his Bulova Accutron that has been sitting in a safe for the last 40 years. I've done some preliminary research, and the date code M6 indicates it was manufactured in 1966. I took off the battery cover, and there luckily is not a battery in it. I'm hopeful it will run when I can get one. The internet says I need a 1.35v #387 battery. Does that sound correct? Can some one identify the watch's model? I couldn't find one like it online.

I'm assuming this is a poly crystal, and I hope it will clean up with some Polywatch.
