Used 2022 or new model 3 on 2 year lease?

So after lots of research narrowed my first EV down to a used model 3 standard range or new lease from Tesla.

2 year lease 12 months down 15000 miles £236 a month. Works out at £8680 over the 2 year term.

When looking at a used 2022 with 45,000 miles for about £17-18k (that was for me the sweet spot for depreciation curve and still long enough battery warranty)

I’ve been trying to work out the continued depreciation of the used 2022 after 2 years plus probably need afew new tyres (as they won’t be brand new) two MOTs and the risk of other maintenance being needed. The reduced range of the older battery wouldn’t be too much of a concern.

I’m guessing that its market value would’ be around 12k (depreciate and cost in maintenance 5.5k over two years) Then would have the hassle of selling and advertising.

The 2 year lease will Cost more but your basically paying the depreciation on the new car as zero % interest. Have to hand the car back and poss pay charges if there are dents and scratched. You don’t have to find a used car and trust the person / dealer you’re buying from.

By not spending the initial £17-18k over the 2 years that will make about £1500 in interest.

I’ve read a lot about in a few years there will be loads of used EVs on the market because of all these current cheap deals which could keep the second hand market low.

So driving a new Tesla will cost £2ish more without all the hassle already discussed

Is the new Tesla a no brainer?

I’m looking for a used EV and when looking at the state of health of the battery I’m not sure what this means.

Say 90% SOH for a 100kw battery

Does that mean that the battery will only need 90kw to be full (and you will only get 90% range) or that it needs 100kw to be full but will only give 90% of the range? Making the car less efficient.

Also when the SOH is 90% does that mean you charge to 70% instead of 80% or still charge to the 80%?

Thanks

My wife is after a new car, current car has a 10 year old 108. She likes Peugeots and likes the look of an e-208 probably 2023 onwards. I’ve seen some Tesla lease deals that look really good for brand new model 3s.

Will do about 15,000 miles a year with a round commute of 42 miles 5 days a week.

Both of us don’t really care about cars and not that into technology gadgets either.

The fuel saving sounds really good compared to petrol and I read about big depreciation on used EVs but we would plan on keeping for many years if we go down the purchase route.

Advice on which is best for first time EV in the family?
