Humble musings from a timid FSD driver

I want to say - I do love FSD and probably use it for about 60% of my driving. I’ve had my new Model Y for about a month now and I try to use it as much as possible.

The main reason it isn’t closer to 99% is because of my commute into Boston. There are definitely times where you need to bob and weave through aggressive traffic, and FSD can feel like a bit of a Bermuda Triangle of reasoning sometimes.

The navigation decisions can be so strange. For example, one time on the highway it randomly took me off an exit ramp, drove down the street, then got right back on the highway at the next entrance. It added like 10 minutes to my drive for absolutely no reason. I’ve disengaged it multiple times when it starts doing stuff like that, and interestingly enough, this morning it finally stayed on the highway the entire time. Is it learning?

On the other hand, yesterday there was a car accident causing a complete standstill while they were trying to tow a car. FSD absolutely blew my mind. It turned onto a side street and routed around the accident almost exactly the way I would have done it myself. It was incredibly impressive.

Then, five minutes later near my house, it tried to pull into my neighbor’s driveway instead of mine 😂 Which seems to happen when I head from the south all the time - but when I drive home from north it pulls into my driveway. On a side note, Is there a way I can have it back into my driveway rather than pull straight in?

That’s kind of been my overall experience so far — moments where it feels unbelievably smart mixed with moments where it makes completely bizarre decisions.

In general, is there any rhyme or reason behind the routes/navigation choices it makes? Does FSD actually learn your driving patterns or preferred routes over time?

I'd love to hear it all!!
