Alright so nerdy question a bit but here's some situations I struggle with at wich I'm a bit confused about how I'm supposed to deal with.

  • fast pokes in neutral, notably walk up light

  • stagger light pressure

  • people that defend tick throw by just taking a little step back

  • people that defend light pressure by fuzzy jabbing

To note, my confusion is about understanding if they are situations where I'm supposed to react, if I'm supposed to have drilled the situation and have a canned read based answer (os or not), if I'm supposed to read it and press my button in advance, or if I'm supposed to take the risk and mash.
Other axes of confusion is how to get the information that they're doing it and then how do I capitalize on those situations.

To my understanding, I should:

  • defend fast poke with anticipation and defend my space by pressing just right before they enter the spacing, opening my to be baited for a whiff punish

  • ??? That one really puzzles me. I suppose I should fuzzy jab there?

  • pressure with sequences that have more fast lows and be able to confirm? Or I could walk forward while staggering lights to keep them close?

  • Find a frame trap that catches their delay, too little of a frame trap and I'll hit their guard and their button is hidden in blockstun, too big and I get stuffed on startup for a counter hit combo.

Do I get that right? Is there something I'm missing/not understanding?
I think I'm mostly understanding the mindgame.
On the other hand, as stated, what really confuses me is to what signal do I react to? As of now, I'm confused about it and feel like I try to react but am consistently too late, like "pressing my button the exact frame I get hit" too late. Wich is becoming a bit frustrating and might drive me up the wall sometimes honestly :D
So how do I make it so I'm on top of the situation and not just 2 to 5 frames too late everytime?
