I’ve made two previous posts about the feral boy I care for. He had gone missing for a week and when he returned, he had a leaky, half-shut eye.
His scheduled TNR appt. was a week away and I was very concerned about his eye, so I made plans to get him seen sooner. I found a highly rated vet who said they would examine his eye and do the TNR, so I brought him in the next morning.
The doctor said he must have gotten into a fight, but that his scrapes were all minor and would heal just fine. She mentioned he had a mild corneal ulcer, but assured me that he didn’t need antibiotics, that it would heal on its own. She prescribed a 3-day course of pain meds for the discomfort.
After his 48 hrs holding period post-surgery, his eye and neuter were looking stable, so he was released. He returned for dinner the very next day and has been eating well, but his eye is still leaking and it’s maybe 50% squinted.
I’m concerned about him, but trying to trust the vet. I’ve read that it sometimes takes up to 2 weeks to heal fully. I **reaaaallllyyyyy** hope it doesn’t get worse and require a second visit. I don’t want to have re-trap him and put him through that stress (or put myself through the trauma of having to do it). I’d also be ***so*** afraid he’d leave me for good if I had to do that.
I guess I just want to know, if anyone has had to re-trap an already TNR’d cat, how hard was it? And most importantly, did the cat come back to you?
If you read this far, thank you so much. You’re a gem.
TLDR; if you have re-trapped a TNR’d cat for a medical emergency: how hard was it? Did the cat ever come back home to you?
