Learning to let go

Intrusive thoughts. Obsessions. You can't run away from them. You can't out think them. The harder you try to stop intrusive thoughts the worst they get.

The human experience is characterized by this persistent feeling that we are the thinker of our thoughts. That our thoughts are who we are and reflect our wants and desires. They do not.

We are not our obsessions. They're a legitimate glitch in the brain. When we remove our identity from them they lose their hold.

Grieving the time that is lost.

I suffer from harm OCD. Only very recently did I learn what I was experiencing was OCD, that the thoughts are ego dystonic and not even my own.

I'm in therapy and take medication. I still suffer but I've made a lot of progress in understanding the suffering. I'm sad that I've spent this long stuck in this fucking thought loop. Suffering from this illness that professionals missed. It's been at least 15 years now. I don't know what to do with myself.
