I usually lurk on this sub, but the most recent post made me want to speak out.
TL;DR: This is damage control and corporate placation, don't listen! Arrowhead needs to be more accountable, actually promise measurable, actual things, and they need to show that they both can deliver on their promises and they need to communicate. Keep pressuring them for change!
I reread through the entire post AH made, and here are some of my thoughts:
- Soulless corporate response to their game reaching Mostly Negative on recent reviews on Steam. They're trying to do damage control because of the reviews. I highly doubt this is the response Pilestedt mentioned 2 weeks ago.
- "Alongside new content", "a major focus", and "significantly expanded the team working in this area" makes it sound like their only focus was on getting as much money into their pocket as possible. Their main focus was making new, monetizable content, not with improving their game and adding meaningful progression and content.
- They admit to stealth nerfs, but both do not promise to do them in the future or acknowledge why they weren't announced clearly. They will continue to implement stealth changes or not properly communicate value changes in the future, mark my words.
- They've promised more clear communication in the past. I'm not holding my breath.
- The feedback on The Galactic War sounds interesting, but also like placation. I'm still skeptical. They gave a vague date range of "the summer" because they can't promise anything more. Also notice how they don't actually promise any changes to note of. There's no promise of real, actionable change.
- "expanding how we test updates with players is a priority for us." They don't state the priority. Remember, they promised a beta branch 2 years ago, and didn't deliver.
- "wider internal studio playtests." That's either a lie or the studio doesn't know how to QA. The Hive Guard changes, Coyote Nerfs, and Vox Engine spam on Cyberstan are proof of this. That would NOT have made it through QA.
- The Exo Experts section does nothing but lie. They needed a new way to make money, so chose short-term profits over long-term customization. If they added mech customization and sold the arms in the Warbond, it would have sparked less outrage. It is still vile that they put mechs in a Warbond, but at least there would have been more customization possibilities.
- Promising more vehicles via gameplay is placation. They aren't saying they won't add more vehicles via Warbonds, they're just "promising" that some won't be in Warbonds.
- Still no mention of armor passive transmog and increased weapon, stratagem, or mech customization. They're still not addressing some of the community's major complaints in that post, despite them being brought up time after time. I have wanted armor transmog since the start of the game, and it's infuriating to see that not be mentioned.
- No official response from Pilestedt at the time of writing, meaning he failed to adhere to his promise. (Also, in the post, it said that he was supposed to respond the week he made it, not this week. He still didn't respond, though. "I will report back once every other week, starting this week." (as of 4/25/26))
It is baffling how little their post actually promises. It is a vague nothingburger of a post that has further enraged the community. The line of "Helldivers 2 matters to all of us" personally pisses me off, as it makes it seem like ArrowHead is any semblance of in touch with their game and community. They're not.
Instead of just venting, I want to propose actual, meaningful change and action.
- Streams weekly of Arrowhead playing the game. Even if it is a few people or some from their dev team, show you are in touch with the game. Yes, this will take away resources and time from developing the game, I admit that. However, having actual, relevant experience with the state of the game will be worth it. In addition to grounding the devs with the game, it will also begin to build community trust, which ArrowHead DESPERATELY needs with the shitshow that the past months have been.
- Get the test branch created post-haste. Push experimental changes to it before the main game, and have a way to receive feedback from the community in it. Having the community be more involved with how changes happens, again, builds community and trust.
- For the love of God, add in a way to get news in-game or via Steam. I have had this complaint for years, I should not have to go digging through the trenches of their socials, Discord, and have to watch 13 different Youtubers to get information about the game.
- Follow through with the promise of communication. It's one thing to get communication to placate the masses, then never use it again. Consistent, valuable communication on the state of things at Arrowhead will do a lot.
- Promise actual, actionable changes to the Galactic War and the game as a whole. Be definitive, be confident. They made no actual promises in the post, and that's just to save their own hide if they can't deliver. Accountability is one of the worst afflictions Arrowhead has, and it NEEDS to be sorted out. Need I mention the shitstorm around the Coyote again?
It sucks, because we all love the game. We want to see it in the best state it can possibly be, and seeing Arrowhead "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" time and time again fills us all with anger and (for me, at least) despair that the game we love won't ever improve. They haven't promised anything actionable, so keep pressuring them through official channels. Keep submitting negative reviews, and have your voice be heard.
