Optimizing Liberty - Incoming Patch: 27th May

>Original post on Steam

Upscaling support coming soon to Helldivers 2!

Greetings Helldivers,

In our last blog, we talked about improving how we communicate with you, and that commitment continues here! We’re focused on being clearer, more consistent, and giving you better visibility into what’s coming and why.

We’re excited to announce a new set of technical improvements, deploying May 27th. In collaboration with our partners at Nixxes, this release brings a range of long-awaited updates across all platforms.

Every frame counts when the pressure is on. This update focuses on three primary pillars: stability, latency reduction, and advanced upscaling technologies - helping ensure performance stays consistent, even in the most demanding moments.

Upscaling Support

We heard you.

To ensure maximum visual clarity without sacrificing performance, we have integrated the latest upscaling solutions tailored to your specific hardware.

  • PC
    • FSR (High-End): 4.0.3 (on supported GPUs)
    • FSR 3.1.5, DLSS 4.5, and XeSS 3.0 support.
  • PS5 Pro
    • PSSR 1
  • PS5
    • FSR 3.1
  • Xbox
    • FSR 3.1

Advanced Visual Optimizations

Beyond resolution, we are introducing several features to smooth out your gameplay experience and optimize GPU workload.

  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
    • Now supported for PS5 and PS5 Pro to reduce any potential stuttering from V-Sync without screen tearing on supported displays.
  • Variable Rate Shading (VRS)
    • This technology intelligently reduces shading rates in certain areas of the image, decreasing GPU load while maintaining visual quality where it matters.
  • Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS)
    • Integrated for both PS5, Xbox Series X and PC to maintain stable frame rates during more graphically demanding scenarios.
    • Increased resolution to 1440p in the “Performance” preset on PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as the “Quality” preset on PS5 Power Saving Mode.

Reduced Latency for Split-Second Reactions

Responsiveness is critical during tense battles, and we’ve worked with hardware partners to reduce input latency.

  • NVIDIA Reflex: Now available for users with NVIDIA GPUs to sharpen responsiveness.
  • AMD Anti-Lag 2: Fully supported for AMD GPU users to ensure your inputs are registered instantly.

This update, along with additional fixes, will drop on May 27, 2026.

But we’re not stopping there, Helldivers. This is just the opening salvo in an ongoing campaign to improve performance across the fleet. Following this release, we’ll be closely monitoring all platforms and hardware configurations, keeping a sharp eye out for anything that needs tuning, and deploying further adjustments as required. We’re also preparing a dedicated tech-focused update later this summer to push these improvements even further.

With our friends at Nixxes dropping onto the battlefield as our backup, we're committing to make diving with your friends better and better. And keep the feedback coming, Helldivers, it's the key to helping us shape the future of the game.

See you all on the battlefield.

The current situation of the community after the update announcement

It took a Reddit Q&A and two weeks for them to realize that the community has been asking for a performance update for two years. Two years! And the ‘big’ fix is just bringing the game up to industry-standard performance techniques that should have been there from the start. It’s honestly ridiculous.

For two whole years we've been pointing out the same problems, asking for the same improvements and dealing with the same performance issues. Then suddenly we get an announcement like this is some kind of breakthrough, when in reality it feels like basic optimization that should have been a priority long ago.

The worst part is the troglodytes defending their practices: "wHeN wIlL pLaYeRs EvEr Be HaPpY?!?!?!?!" or "iF tHiS iS nOt FiXiNg I dOn'T kNoW wHaT iT iS!!1!1!1!"

P.S: SECOND PICTURE IS FOR YOU ARROWHEAD! ❤️

They said the thing

Haven't read it all yet. Expecting mostly lip service and EAC.

I have since read it. Another outsourcing to Nixxes W.

Keep it up Narrowhead. Maintain the quality standards.

I can’t wait to hear the news when they carry out mass redundancies at their studio. Seriously, this isn’t funny anymore.

What watching a historic game squandered by its studio feels like

It doesn't feel amazing to vote with your feet, but that's the point I've been driven to.

But I miss hopping into the game to spread managed democracy. What a terrible shame the current state of the game is.

People saying that walking with the maxigun would be impossible, but that logic doesn’t follow up.

Some people say that we can walk with the cremator because it doesn’t put as much force as a minigun, and that being forced to be stationary with the maxigun is for realism. But, by that logic, the HMG is absolutely impossible for a human to fire. It fires bullets as big as some of the biggest sniper rifles in the world, like the Barrett, at 0.50 cal. You would break or dislocate your shoulder and other body parts by the second shot. And the autocannon, that is a cannon which uses 20mm to 30mm flak shells. These aren’t even used by humans. They have to be part of a machine to even be fired. Otherwise you’re breaking your whole collar bone and shoulder, etc. The cremator would weight over 100 pounds for just the fuel tank on the back. Helldivers’ spines would be strained significantly, if not broken. Diving, running, and other things would be extremely difficult and eventually impossible if they aren’t superhumans, and they aren’t. And yes, no human can walk while firing a minigun, it’s not possible. But, by that logic, none of these work either. Saying that it is justified is bullshit.

Arrowhead Messed Up The Patch notes... again

https://preview.redd.it/2f6bbbthse2h1.png?width=1824&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c163ed3b512f19e1bcf9f1315b182ae16700403

So apparently, this patch fixed issues relating to their audio system that were causing crashes where 10%+ of all sessions crashed.

Lets set aside how its absolutely insane they let it get to where more than 1/10 people that boot up the game will have it crash.

They made a patch, with a singular patch note, and messed it up.

Its honestly impressive how they continue to disappoint despite having zero expectations

Illuminate Warp Ships have gotten some weird treatment

Warp ships genuinely have to be some of the strangest and most noticeable changes to the feel of an enemy in the entire game.

When they were introduced, blasting a Warp Ship out of the sky wasn't just easy, it was almost comically so. The EATs littering the city maps meant you could quickly and easily obliterate a Warp Ship just as fast as you can Automaton Ships. On defense it was even easier with the addition of the Anti-Tank Emplacement, making those missions nothing short of a joke.

So, this naturally mandated the addition of the shields on the ship, making them less prone to being deleted from the sky like clay pigeons. However, unlike a change like making the RR no longer one-shot Drop Ships to the body, Warp Ships have an entire new feel to how they are dealt with...they're not.

Now you almost never see anyone actually shooting them out of the sky—unless you're on a defense the commitment required to destroy them is too great to be done quickly. Even just taking down a single ship is rather difficult unless you both have an AT option available, and a teammate willing to help you gun down the shield in time (or an AT Emplacement lined up where it can get 3 clean shots on it before the ship delivers its payload).

Is this a complaint? Not really? Illuminate as a whole are pretty easy to deal with. However, I don't think there's another enemy in the game that has gotten this level of treatment. 90% of counter-play to a Warp Ship is non-existent now. I'm not sure if there's a possible middle ground to it, like making the ship take longer to deploy enemies or lowering the shield health, but honestly it is odd how severe of a change it was, the more I think about it.

What's wrong with connection this days?

I'm new diver (35lvl) and I spent a lot of free time to dive with random guys. And where's a problem, a half of my games was ruined just because where was a problem with connection. And it's not my Wi-Fi, every other divers has this problem too, as I can judge.

Is ot only me and a couple of other guys, or it's a massive event?

So what’s the situation?

I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from the game for about a month or so? I’ve kept up with the news and community post and such but I’m wondering what’s going on at arrowhead? Seems they’ve been radio silent and pretending nothing has happened? I’m a bit worried about the state of the game and what’s next for it….most developers would keep fans and community updated…..this is bad comparison but with battlefield 6 the devs are constantly giving updates on features and weapons and plans and ideas on balancing, netcode changes, recoil changes, weapon progression, and so forth. Im just wondering if Sony is down arrowheads neck right now and maybe that’s what’s causing the silence? I mean they have a movie coming out next year of November, it would be really stupid for this game to die before that….all in all just wondering if arrowhead has sent out any statements.
