i had a somewhat weird interaction today that i wanted to share. i'm leaving a shop and heading back to my 2017 Camry Hybrid. as i finish loading my haul into the trunk, a guy who parked two spaces over stops to compliment my car, and tells me that he has one in the Dominican Republic (this interaction was entirely in Spanish). he shook my hand, said "God bless you" and went on his way.

harmless enough, but it left me kinda confused. there's nothing particularly impressive about my Camry. it doesn't have the aggressive styling of the new generation, no aftermarket modifications. just a plain-Jane black Camry. as i drive away, i think to myself, "the Toyota Camry is the most common car on the road? does this guy really get nostalgic for his car and compliment every Camry he sees in a parking lot?"
