For those of you who don't know what I'm referring to, take a moment to look at this post first: https://www.reddit.com/r/DisventureCamp/comments/1p5ycpv/hes_absolutely_the_gay_bait_this_season/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
I made a post about 5 months ago right before S5 began & basically said Sam would be the gay bait. Well....he's bi but he's ultimately been very secretive & kinda one note. He's cute tho lol. But rather than thinking I was right or wrong about what I predicted, I'm more interested in what the hell they're gonna do with Sam going forward.
I know the teased thumbnail for 9's upcoming episode exists (and I've seen 9's trailer over on Patreon, that's all I'm saying in that regard), but I gotta be honest, folks keep jumping to (unsurprising yet valid) conclusions on what's to come between Sam & Spencer.
And honest to god, I just don't know WHAT to expect cuz Sam has basically been a very slow burn & slightly methodical type-character to keep an eye on. And you know who that reminded me of? Isabel.
Built her up for damn near half the season, gave us peak with a few decent moves in the merge & then got relegated to Jade's hype man by the end of it all with not much to show for her almost impressive run during S4. I like Isabel but maaaaan the payoff of her becoming some tour de force baddie or even some level of conflicted antagonist was wasted with a lack of direction post-badass idol play.
I bring her up cuz I'm reminded of it as I watch Sam play the game. We're a few eps from the halfway point & I just...feel like he's going a slightly similar path. The difference between him & Isabel is that he's at least got more to him as far as backstory or literally ANYTHING about his life that has yet to be full revealed. And I imagine it'll play into his motivations for winning. And my hope is that all of these points made will lead to more of Sam doing things actively & the payoff to all that talk of playing the game coming to pass.
So yeah, he's def gay bait but like...it's really not much outside of being a handsome bi guy who's supposedly a manipulative fella, as predicted by an one ep wonder. And aside from a few decent moves, he's not really keeping me intrigued as much as I assume ONC would've liked lol.
I'd love to know what y'all think about Sam overall? And where do you think he'll go from Ep.9 onward?
