I’ve even encountered this bug a few times myself, and it’s a recurring issue I see mentioned here—though it’s a known bug that’s already been reported at: https://forum.netmarble.com/stardive_gl/view/16/101

- In some cases, the soul drop icon may briefly appear when a monster is defeated, but the Monsterling Soul itself can take a moment to show up. [Added on 5/4 10:58 (UTC)]

* If this happens, please try reconnecting or using Warp. The Monsterling Soul should then appear and be available for capture as normal.

So the developers are definitely aware of this bug, and we’re obviously waiting for a fix.
