PURPOSE

  • What's the purpose of your next card (choose ONE)?: Cash back
  • Do you have any cards you've been looking at? Wells Fargo Autograph, Capital One Savor one (Pre-approved)

I’m a college student and just recently started building credit since I’m an international student and didn’t have an ITIN before, so my history is pretty short. I’m still figuring all this out since credit is pretty new to me and I don’t have many people around me who really understand it either.

I’m studying abroad soon and want to get a credit card before I leave so I can use it overseas. I’ll mostly be using it for everyday expenses, so I’d love rewards for that, but I also spend a decent amount on travel and shopping, so that would be a bonus too. Definitely need something with no foreign transaction fees.

A couple weeks ago I applied for the Wells Fargo Autograph and got rejected — mainly because I had higher balances at the time, a recent hard inquiry, and short credit history. Since then, I’ve paid everything down and now I’m only using about 10% of my credit (I can't really do much about the history and the inquiry atp)

Right now I’m debating whether to try the Autograph again, and if that doesn’t work, apply for the Capital One SavorOne (I’m already pre-approved for it, but I know applying back-to-back is kinda risky). Or maybe I should just go straight for the SavorOne. Any other alternative is also appreciated.

I know waiting would probably be the smarter move, but I leave the country in two weeks and heading to study abroad immediately at the end of summer, so timing is tight. Worst case, I could apply later and have the card shipped to a friend who sends it to me.

My statement closes on the 5th/6th, so I was planning to apply right after that once everything reports low.

Thank y'all so much for the assistance.
