Context: I've played all games except spirit of Justice and the professor Layton crossovers.
Man, I've been listening to the soundtrack for Apollo justice and it reminded me of how much I loved the game. Yeah it definitely had it's flaws but it's characters, music, vibes etc. Were just so likeable.
Not to mention the many questions and potential for expansion like:
- >!Where was Thalassa Gramarye during her "death"?!<
- >!What was up with Kristopher's scar?!<
- >!Do Trucy and Apollo ever find out their siblings?!<
- >!How does Klavier feel about his brothers true nature in more depth?!<
I'm dying to know the answer, but we'll never know because the mixed reception to the first game caused them to pivot back to Phoenix Wright and make duel destinies.
Don't get me wrong, I like duel destinies in a vacuum. Athena is great and so is Simon blackquill. Not to mention most of the cases are good. But as a sequel to Apollo Justice? It feels way too different in almost everything to be considered a trilogy.
It's like going to a fancy Italian restaurant and being served delicious spaghetti for your opening course. Then halfway through your meal you're informed that due to low sales the restaurant is pivoting to serving American cuisine instead, and for dessert you get an ice cream sundae instead of the tiramisu.
Like yeah, I love the ice cream sundae n' all, but I can't help but feel melancholy that I'm never going to get to taste the true follow up to that amazing spaghetti.
Like the original Phoenix Wright trilogy FEELS like a complete package with a beginning, middle and end. Apollo justice's trilogy (from what I have played so far) feels like it has two beginnings to very different narratives.
That's all I wanted to say, sorry if this is too long!
