Using tax return to rebuild PC, need opins
Got a larger-than-thought tax return and am using that plus a buddy's good deal on an i7-12700kf, so I'm upgrading but need y'all's opinions on my final list.
Currently in my rig Ive got an;
hand-me-down i5-8600k
eBay used MSI Z370 gaming DDR4 MotherB
Corsair Vengence DDR4 @ 3200mhz (new, bought in 09/25)
Asus 4060ti 16 GB (new, bought in 09/25)
3x SATA 2.5' SSDs (2x new bought 12/24)
Old 750w PSU (like 15 years old)
With my tax return, I'd like to build a newer PC while utilizing my recent RAM and GPU purchases.
Currently I'm thinking of going with;
Intel Core i7-12700KF (buddy has a NIB chip he'll give me for 200usd)
MSI PRO B760-P WIFI DDR4 LGA 1700
ASRock Steel Legend SL-850G 850W 80 PLUS GOLD & Cybenetics PLATINUM Full Modular Power Supply
Thoughts? The MSI board is literally the only DDR4 motherboard I can find that isn't over 300 bucks and shipped in the USA, I've read horror stories of 3rd party sellers on Newegg/Amazon, so I'm hedging my bets.
I also noticed that the 12700 and my 8600k both run at 3.6GHz, but my selection of MB won't allow overclocking, so will I still notice an improvement from jumping 4 gens and 1 tier up?
