How to fix?
Need advice on repairing wall/gap after removing builder mirror in bathroom.
I’m updating my primary bathroom and removed one of those large builder-grade mirrors that was glued directly to the wall. It tore up some of the drywall paper and exposed some unevenness in the wall.
My plan is to repair the wall to hang a new mirror. No backsplash.
My biggest concern is this gap between the integrated vanity backsplash and the wall.
The wall seems slightly bowed/uneven, so the gap looks larger in some spots. It’s deeper than a normal caulk line, so I’m not sure how to fix this.
I can patch/sand/paint and I’m comfortable using caulk, but I have never done major drywall work.
My questions:
What’s the best way to build this area up cleanly?
Should I use joint compound/hot mud?
Do I need backer rod anywhere or is this small enough to feather out with compound?
What primer should I use over torn drywall paper before mudding?
Any tips to make this seam look clean/intentional once the new mirror is installed?
