Today I found out my orange cats is in fact a boy
i’m referring to my cat by she:her pronouns bc i’m lazy and don’t want to change my vernacular. My cat is biologically male
When I adopted my cat they told me she was a boy. Later, I was send medical records that said she was a spayed female. I took her to the vet, and no one contradicted these findings.
Three years late, I go to the vet today, and the vet discovers she has a penis (and signs of a scrotum but no balls so still fixed). During her ultrasound while trying to get a urine sample, they discovered she doesn’t have enough of a bladder for a sample but there are signs of crystallization.
Now, I’m not mad my cat is actually male, who cares, she’s a cat. I can call her what I want, she responds to her name, whatever. What I am mad about is that male orange cats are more susceptible to UTI’s and I have been told by previous vets I could pass on urine analysis due to the fact that my cat was female.
Tomorrow I take her back to the vet in hopes for a urinalysis and to check her chip to ensure I adopted the right cat (something I should’ve checked when I adopted her, I know but I was young and dumb). Hopefully, things come out alright.
At this point, I’m wondering if there’s any action I can take for her delay in medical care due to incorrect sex and what I can do to better my cats life. I have another male orange cat who’s never had UTI problems, so I’m not sure how to help if my newly discovered male cat has them too.
Any advice would be helpful. I feel like my cat has been neglected medically for years now over something that should’ve been obvious. How do I trust vets now when every exam of her has failed her until this one
