How reliable is Public transportation?
Hi! I’m an incoming grad student at UConn, specifically the Hartford campus, which I’m very excited to start in the fall! I’m moving from a pretty big city in the west coast that has fairly decent public transportation. Moving across the country is already super expensive, so I want to avoid the additional cost of buying a car, if at all possible.
How reliable is the public transportation system?
Is there a bus app besides Google Maps that use real time traffic data to predict bus arrival times and delays? A lot of people in the city where I currently live use another app, swearing by it that it is more accurate, and I wondered if Hartford had anything similar.
Last but not least, how safe are the busses and bus stops? Especially when it gets darker earlier in the day in the winter, I’ll likely take buses after dusk every once in a while and I wonder if carrying pepper spray is sufficient?
All in all, if getting around by bus is manageable I’m used to not having a car. However, please let me know if I’m making a mistake in not buying one if it is not safe or reliable!
