First Year Teacher in CT!

Hi everyone! I am a recent ECSU college grad and just got my first teaching job as an elementary teacher at a Title 1 school in a large urban district. I created a wishlist on Amazon of supplies my classroom and students will need to start the year. If anyone in the community could help us by purchasing an item off the list, I would so appreciate it! Thank you for your consideration!

Recommendations on things to do with toddler?

My family and I will be traveling to Maine soon, but plan to break up the drive and stay in Hartford. We only plan to stay one day, then coutinue our drive. Is there any “must-sees”, fun toddler recreation, restaurants to see during the short time we are visiting? Thank you in advance!

I have an unusual executive background. I'm looking for the problems that need someone like me

I'm an executive-level business leader with a somewhat unusual background. I've built and run my own company, led marketing departments, managed teams and outside partners, worked directly with owners and executives, worked alongside technical teams, advised businesses, and spent a large part of my career solving problems that don't fit neatly into a single job description.

My experience spans strategy, business development, marketing, technology, team leadership, operations, positioning, growth, and more.

The problem is that my career history is unconventional, and traditional hiring systems don't handle unconventional very well.

I've found that when I actually get in front of an executive or business owner, the conversation is completely different from what happens when my résumé gets filtered through the normal process. People tend to see the breadth of what I can do, how I think, and the level at which I can operate.

So I'm trying something different.

I'm not asking anyone to hire me. I'm not looking for someone to vouch for me without knowing me. I'm looking for conversations.

If you're a founder, CEO, executive, business owner, or someone who works closely with people in those roles, I'd genuinely enjoy talking with you. I'm interested in hearing how you think about businesses, what problems you're dealing with, and whether there might be somewhere my experience could be useful.

I'm open to an executive role, consulting, advisory work, a fractional opportunity, or other ways I can put my experience to work and create meaningful value.

I'm at a point where I'd rather have a handful of meaningful conversations with the right people than send hundreds of applications into a system that may never give either side the opportunity to connect.

If you know someone you think I should talk to, I'd appreciate an introduction. And if you're someone who thinks we should talk, feel free to comment or send me a message.

I'm not looking for a favor.

I'm looking for a conversation.

Hartford Saturday Night!

Cross posted on the Connecticut board - My last post here got taken down so I apologize if this is not the appropriate venue (might’ve been the pic of my dog I included. Sorry! New to Reddit and very open to advice)…

Looking for a great place to grab some food/a drink tonight in Hartford. Would really like to support local while we’re here. Love beer (IPA fans here) and interesting cocktails. Would really like to get some foreign food (Mediterranean and Indian are my favorites) as we do not have this available to us in our hometown.

Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated!!

Edit: We really enjoyed Parkville Market and The Lady (bar)! Thanks CT!

Looking for an endocrinologist- suggestions needed

Hello everyone!

I'm on the lookout for the best endocrinologist in Hartford and West Hartford, but I'm also open to traveling a bit further if necessary. I'm particularly interested in someone who specializes in thyroid and adrenal gland. I have some thyroid and adrenal issues that require attention, so I'm seeking a highly recommended professional who can provide the best care. A person who ACTUALLY listens to their patient and is willing to do testing to get to the root cause. I want someone who truly knows what they are doing and is knowledgeable.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

How do you get over the anxiety that you’re going to kill someone driving here?

I just moved here last month. I have lived all over the eastern half of the US, and in much bigger cities than Hartford. I have never seen anything like this.

What in the world is with the motorcyclists, ATV drivers, go-karts (???), electric bikers, etc. that weave in and out of traffic, pull out in front of cars, ride wheelies down busy streets, cross intersections speeding and not looking, riding without lights at night, and just generally being careless? Pedestrians too just dart in front of moving cars in the dark. The parked cars on the sides of the streets make it difficult enough to see small vehicles or people that are about to cross. I’m just trying to wrap my head around it. Are these people not just constantly getting killed? Do they not care about their lives? How can you adapt to driving here with the constant fear that you’re going to at some point run over these people while they zoom in and out of blind spots and don’t follow traffic rules?
