OPP not accepting a 24 year old?

I recommended OPP to someone close to me so they can get help getting a GED but when they tried to apply they were denied because they turn 25 in about a month and a half. Is that normal? They're 24 right now and I've been told that there's no time limit for anyone who turns 25 while working with OPP, so I'm confused why they weren't accepted.

Apparently the person they talked to told them to try getting help at a place called "BEST Chance program", but Google says you need a GED to join (and to have gone to jail, something they also haven't done). So if anyone knows any alternatives that would be helpful.

Looking for tattoo artist recommendations in Hartford/West Hartford

I have not gotten a new tattoo since moving to this area of Connecticut. All of my prior tattoos were done in Fairfield and New London counties. So I would like to try an artist in the area, plus I don’t feel like driving very far.

I’m looking to get a color tattoo of a jar of Vegemite. For anyone unfamiliar, it is an Australian spread primarily used on toast. It’s an acquired taste. I grew up eating it and loving it with my Australian father. The bright yellow label brings a comforting nostalgia.

I’m looking to commemorate my dad who passed away of cancer. The man loved tattoos, he was absolutely covered in them. And he loved his Vegemite.

I added a few inspo pics in terms of the style I’m looking for, as well as the beautifully vibrant Vegemite jar for anybody who has never seen one.

Natural beauty nearby

I've spent time living where ocean (Brighton Beach and Puerto Rico) were close. Lived where beautiful river views were close, (Hudson, Charles). Even some smallish mountains (Berkshire foothills).

I live in Hartford now. For semi natural beauty super nearby, there's Elizabeth Park. But where can I sit on a blanket or a bench really close to the Connecticut? I would have thought Riverside Park, but it's more a play area *near* a river then it is river gazing. I'm slightly disabled (and have a very busy schedule) so long hikes are not gonna be a common thing. Take Elizabeth Park. I want somewhere I can drive, and in a short walk, be able to sit and dream and write and look at nice nature. So just like Elizabeth Park, but a state park where the nature is more natural?

The closer the better, I'm talking ideally like lunch hour round trip, but longer is okay too... Help me find beauty!

Best Diner in west Hartford??

My boyfriend lives out of state and is working on his birthday. He’s visiting me this weekend and he LOVES diners. I’m still relatively new to the area, so we’ve only been to Effie’s and Quaker diner. If you have any recommendations let me know.

*preferably not a chain like the friendly toast, a classic diner. The kind with a long menu and local ads on the coffee mugs!!!

I had to move to Connecticut for my job 3 years ago. I didn't want to live in New England — now I never want to leave.

Finally a positive article about Connecticut/Hartford! https://www.businessinsider.com/move-to-connecticut-job-work-hartford-benefits-surprisingly-great-2026-5

As someone who moved to Connecticut 25 years ago from the south I can say that I absolutely love living in CT and at this point there's no where else I'd rather live either! Spread the love!

Relocating for work. Any living recommendations appreciated.

Will be working in Windsor but would like to live in downtown area. Early 30s, single, no kids. Just want something relatively affordable (1BR less than $1800) , in a decent area that’s walkable and has some things to do and places to eat. Not super active socially so don’t really care about nightlife but wouldn’t mind a decent sports bar or such. I’ve reached out to a few places already but can’t exactly drive 5 hours right now to tour everything. Hopefully I can do that soon. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

Hartford Yard Goats - tickets?

Checking in to see if Hartford folks find these games fun and entertaining? Thinking about going to this evening's game if the rain holds off. I see tickets online but are they also available at the gate? Any discount codes or offers to recommend? Thanks all!

What are the best lots?

I hate that this has to be my first post here but I just moved here a couple of weeks ago for a new job and just had my car broken into and tires stolen at the Elm St. lot overnight. In the process of getting it repaired rn but I'm also looking at better more secure lots/garages in the area. I was wondering if anyone had any good close by recommendations that won't break the bank.

…I hope you are able to use my property to solve the issue(s) that brought you to the bag drop at Gillette Ridge in Bloomfield, Connecticut this afternoon.

This was my first time playing the course. I was in awe of this course. Well appointed on all accounts. Tee to green.

The cart attendant, upon returning our carts, cleaned our clubs. Truly amazing service.

Dropped our bags at the bag drop, three of us, when returned from the clubhouse roughly 30/45 min. later….two of our three bags were gone. The other bag taken belonged to an 82 year old journeyman golfer that am I lucky to call a friend. He is also a veteran and shoots his age.

After investing thousands of dollars into the gear, body and mind that were in that bag…I hope you get what you need from it. It is priceless to me.

The clubs and bag were the vessel. The custom things and gifts from friends and loved ones that resided inside are the real loss.

This is, writing from personal experience, the same feeling as a house fire.

I am lost.

To the person that needed my golf life:

I hope whatever happens next with the totality of it makes you as happy as it has made me.

Renting in downtown Hartford

I used to live in downtown in 2017, it was about 1,100 for a 1 bedroom. Now I’m looking at prices in the same building and it’s 1700-1900 for a 1 bdr? Why did prices jump so much? Is it just inflation?

Edit: It seems Ive pissed a lot of people off with this question, pls forgive my ignorance as that was not my intent. Still doesn’t make sense to me why the prices changed as much as they did but atleast I’ve learned this is a sensative topic

Moving to Hartford for a job, need advice on where to live.

I am moving to Hartford this Summer for a job, and I am pretty split between where to live. I have a bunch of apartment tours stacked up for the days I am in town visiting over Memorial Day weekend (listed below).

Everyone I’ve talked to recommends West Hartford, but I honestly don’t have the budget for it, given the amount of space and quality of apartments I am looking for.

For downtown, I am looking at Portrait and Pennant, Front St. Lofts, 777 Main, and 55 Elm, although I didn’t really love downtown. I just like the amenities and the access to Bushnell Park; it was so pretty when the trees were blooming. I stayed at 55 Elm when I visited, and I liked it. I just found it to be so eerily quiet downtown.

For two options close to my job, I am looking at Residences at Wash Brook and Spark Bloomfield, which I know are quieter and a little further from town, but I think I like the idea of having a super short commute.

Those are the tours I have booked (maybe too many tours), but I would love for someone to tell me something that would completely rule out some of those choices. Also, if anyone knows of anyone looking for a roommate in West Hartford, I'd be open to that.

PMC Properties really that bad?

Hi! I need to move at the end of summer to a new apartment. For my own logistical reasons it really needs to be downtown or SoDo/ South Green. I have been warned away from PMC owned buildings a few times at this point. However, i received no such warnings about my current building and management and they are absolutely abominable, so i am wondering if PMC would really be worse. Would anyone care to share their experiences with PMC? Any story, good or bad might help im just trying to collect more info.
