17M International Student Moving to VUW for BE(Hons) Software Engineering

Kia ora!

I'm a 17-year-old guy heading to New Zealand from overseas to start my Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Software Engineering at Victoria University of Wellington (Te Herenga Waka). Super excited but also pretty nervous as this is a big move. I wanted to post here to get real insights from current/past students on the VUW community and life in Wellington.

Here are my main doubts, I'd love your honest takes in the comments:

  • Things to keep in mind or prepare beforehand? What should I sort out before leaving (documents, packing, finances, etc.)? Any culture shocks or practical tips for a young international student?
  • First things I should do when I get there? Orientation, accommodation, settling in what's the priority list for the first week or two?
  • Looking for part-time jobs – I want to work to help with costs. Is it realistic? What's the job market like for students in Wellington (hospitality, retail, campus roles, tech related)? Best places to search and any tips for CVs/interviews?
  • Is it worth it? From your experience, is VUW strong for Software Engineering? Good lecturers, industry connections, hands-on projects? Would you recommend it overall?
  • How's life there? Student community vibe, social scene, cost of living, weather, making friends as an international, work-life balance, etc. Pros/cons of Wellington for a first-year engineering student?

Any advice from engineering students especially would be amazing. Thanks in advance, stoked to join the VUW whānau!

Collecting Documents from NIOS HQ, Noida

Hey Guys! I passed my NIOS 12th in April 2026 Public Exams and I would like to know that when can I collect my Physical Marksheet, Passing Certificate, Transfer Certificate, and Migration Certificate? Also, What documents should I take with myself there for the collection of these documents?

Figuring It Out?

Hey Guys, I appeared for April 2026 exams and fear that I might score less in Mathematics and Computer Science. So, I decided to reappear for these exams through On-Demand. I had a few doubts that I wanted to get clarified through you guys:-

  1. How am I supposed to know the timing for the examinations? Ik it's written to ask the centre or the 2:00 pm mark but I prefer to double check

  2. Will my Computer Science practical and theory exam happen on the same day? How am I supposed to know their timings also?

PS:- Thanksss a lot guys for your unwavering support and help ❤️
