Was it common for spears to have a covering during transport or storage?

I've not been able to find much online, but for lack of a better term, is there any historical evidence for a spear sheath or scabbard? I'm primarily interested if this was common for Chinese spears, but insight on spear coverings in other cultures would be appreciated too.

If so, were certain solutions more popular during a particular era?
