Mandalorian and Grogu Review
I’m sure eventually all these reviews might get rounded up into a Megathread, but I watched it at 2:45pm.
I’m not big on the sequels, I’m a PT kid, and man if this film didn’t feel like a lesser stakes prequel film. Seems like there’s grifters on both sides ready to roast this film on arrival, which is odd as it seems to be more of a Lucas era film, closer to The Clone Wars in terms of sequence structure, and of course the Mandalorian show at its heart.
If you’re expecting universe changing story-telling, this isn’t it. But who expected that realistically? I expected an adventure film similar to an 80s Indiana Jones movie, and that’s what we got. Hell, I even felt like i was watching a Mandalorian KOTOR arc, and for a post ROTJ film i never thought we’d be able to feel that.
The action is golden, the designs feel like they had prequel/OT amounts of effort put in, the planets were great, and those scores were great. Like I said plenty of heart, Clone Wars / Mandalorian makes up its DNA, unsure what folks were expecting out of “Mandalorian and Grogu” if not them on a thrilling adventure.
I’m seeing folks grifting saying it’s “Worse than Rise of Skywalker” LOL, “Somehow Palpatine Returned” and the death of the Skywalkers cannot ever be beaten. At least we care about these heroes.
4/5 Stars for me, would’ve liked more personal conversations and internal conflicts. But everything else was there. Beautiful planets, beautiful scores, fantastic non-stop action, and a relatively personal story of magic, machinery as well as crime and villainy.
