How impactful is an upward sGPA trend?

Hey!

(For context my goal school is UNC chapel hill). So my current cumulative GPA is 3.7, however my in my earlier years in college I didn’t know what I wanted to do and kinda sucked at studying, and took some stem classes that impacted my sGPA which I calculated to be at 3.0 right now.

I still have many of the pre reqs (ochem1/2, phys1/2, biochem, bio2) so it’s malleable, but when calculating I found that I’d need an almost perfect performance on them to get at most around a 3.6 sGPA. I was wondering how strongly schools consider upwards trends and will I need to explain it when applying, and also if I should ain to accommodate for it with a higher MCAT score? Or am i lowkey cooked for UNC?

tldr: 3.7 cgpa, 3.0sgpa (although multiple pre reqs left), how strongly are upwards trends considered and do i still have a shot for in-state UNC chapel hill
