Jyotish Tarot — my 36-card tarot system created from handmade collage art
I created Jyotish Tarot as a 36-card divination system based on Jyotish Astrology, also known as Vedic astrology.
The 36 cards come from the planets, signs and houses used in Jyotish, but I developed the cards to work together as their own system for readings.
The artwork began as a way for me to study Jyotish more deeply. I created an original art piece for each card using collage made from materials I found in nature, along with paint and mulberry paper. Creating the images helped me explore and understand what each part of Jyotish represented. The photos show several of those original pieces next to the cards they eventually became.
When I turned the artwork into a physical deck, the original pieces went through the digital production process needed for printing, including resizing, cropping, color adjustment and preparing the images to fit standard card dimensions.
Jyotish Tarot has continued to develop from those original art pieces into a complete 36-card deck. I'm interested to hear what other deck creators and collectors think of the concept and the transition from the original artwork to the finished cards.
