This was a "fun" failure - Crankshaft Pulley split and ate the Timing Belt cover on my '90 Accord
While it sounded horrible (somewhere between a hole in the engine and a spun crankshaft bearing...) the damage was not extensive. The complete timing belt system is dirty, but undamaged.
