Brand New Idea for a Putting Practice Game

Hey there, everybody!

So I've been playing a lot of solo games and realized that I am terrible at putting, like Happy Gilmore bad. So I came up with a game to help myself learn to putt, not only with my putter, but with all 5 of my main discs!

I'm kinda big into computers, so I kinda came up with this as a natural psychological reinforcement learning algorithm for my brain, to teach me the subtle differences and specific use cases for each putt, by giving me a LOT of different contexts for each putt in every game.

I'm calling it "Puttbee", pronounced like Rugby.

PUTTBEE OFFICIAL RULEBOOK 07/15/26
By kadepow11

SCATTERBRAIN DISCLAIMER: For this rulebook, you may notice instructions fluctuate from single-player descriptions to multi-player descriptions. The rules of Puttbee are identical between playing solo and playing with friends. If playing Puttbee Solo, just interpret these rules with the player list being only you (IE. *"*If all players fail to capture Key Disc for the same Target Disc 3 times in a row, the disc may be thrown toward the basket (but not captured) by the last player, and point valued accordingly." -> "If you fail to capture the Key Disc for the same Target Disc 3 times in a row, the disc may be thrown toward the basket, but cannot be captured")

The Court:
The game 'court' is set up around wherever the basket is. Each individual player will take turns distributing 1 disc until all of the discs are around the basket at random positions.

The Gear:
1 Frisbee Golf Basket
10 Frisbee Golf Discs. (9 Target Discs, and 1 Key Disc)

The Goal:

The objective of this game is to 'capture' as many Target Discs as possible. You capture the Target Discs by first successfully putting the Key Disc, and then successfully putting the Target Disc.

Scoring:
Every Target Disc is worth 1 point for every 5ft away from the basket it is. For example, if you captured a disc that is 8ft away, it'd be worth 1 point, but if you captured a disk that's, say 16ft away from the basket, it'd be worth 3 points. (The exact function to calculate from distance-points is: (f:(distance in feet): (f/5) -> Round down to smallest whole.)

Once a Target Disc has been captured, the player receives the associated points, and the disc remains in the basket for the rest of the game.

Chain Rule:
If the Key Disc when thrown hits the chains, but doesn't land in the basket, the player may still attempt to capture the Target Disc for points, but their turn is over afterward.

The 'Too-Far' Rule:
If all players fail to capture the Key disc for the same Target Disc 3 times in a row, the Target Disc may be thrown toward the basket (but not captured) by the last player to attempt the throw, and be worth the points for its new location.

Putting Misses, and Turn-Ending Scenarios:

  • If the Key Disc lands on the ground, then the player's turn is over.
  • If the Key Disc lands in the basket, but the Target Disc lands on the ground, the player's turn is not over, but they must pick a different Target disc to capture (If that was the only Target disc left, then the player's turn is over)
  • Reference Chain Rule
  • The game is over once all Target Discs are captured, and the winner is the person with the most points.

All Encompassing 'Key' Rules Throughout Gameplay:

  1. You may only harness the Key Disc to collect points if it was picked up from the basket (With the exception of Chain Rule)
  2. Whenever the Key Disc is on the ground, it must be captured by a successful putt.
  3. If a Target Disc is thrown and lands on the ground, it remains where it landed, and its points are updated accordingly.
  4. Discs less than 5ft away from the basket on the ground, must be redistributed further away by random toss immediately after they've hit the threshold.
  5. When throwing a disc, you must follow the standard PDGA ruleset for legal throwing positions. Your closest foot may not be any closer to the basket than the furthest tip of the Target Disc.
