Mid range vs Driver
Helloooo,
My girlfriend and I have been getting into the sport and struggling to throw very far, I've probably hit like 200 feet max with a forehand. Many throws just shank hard to the left.
Anyways, I watched a video from foundation disc golf where he recommended just throwing mid range and putters when getting started. I was thinking about getting a buzzz as I've seen that recommended.
How do y'all feel about this, or should I still be trying to throw drivers?
Thanks!
For the folks who've thrown aces, I'm curious: what mold(s) have you thrown the most holes in one with? And just to open the question up to more people, if you've only ever thrown field aces, what mold(s) have you gotten the most field-aces or throw-ins (+/-60m/200ft.) with?
We talk of "money runs" of discs, and we talk of throwing "ace runs," but I'm curious if there are any actual ***Ace Runs***? Ie. Are there runs of discs or particular (factory) molds which are "responsible" for the most amount of aces thrown? If so, what are they? Is there a better way to find out than polling the disc golf subreddit?
My top 3 to start it off, in order of more- to less aces, are the Cheetah, Destroyer, and Valkyrie, and an honorable mention has to go to the Rhyno for volume of throw-ins.
Hbu?
How often do you clean / wash your discs?
As title states. I just got back from a muddy round where several discs found some poison ivy. I usually give them a scrub in the shower with me and some Technu (probably doing too much) or Dawn in this situation. Sometimes I realize a handful of discs have some light dirt on them and I'll toss my whole bag in the tub to let them soak.
I've also played with some guys who don't ever clean them more than a quick wipe on the course and back in the bag.
Have you noticed anything different with the flight or your grip with a freshly cleaned disc vs. one that's never seen water and soap?
Getting the husband a cart for his birthday. Which one?
Basically the title. He has a small Zuca cart right now that doesn’t always cut it. I got him a Grip EQ bag to go with this cart. Anyone who has tried either or both, what did you like/dislike? Any advice on which way I should go?
I lost my Halo G-Blend Pharaoh, and I’m wondering what would be the best replacement.
I lost my halo G-Blend Erika Stinchkomb 2024 tour series Pharaoh at NAU Disc golf course a little over a weeek ago. It was my favorite disc and main driver and I’m wondering what would be the best replacement as infinite doesn’t print halo G anymore and that was a special 2024 tour series run anyway. I’m open to any suggestions and looking for something that feels similar to that halo G-blend(G Star) plastic
I played in my first tournament yesterday and finished first in my division!
I started playing last year and just played in my first tournament yesterday in the MA4 division. This was by far the best round I’ve ever played and while I’m proud of myself, I also just had a great time meeting new people and playing with a great card. It was a fun and memorable experience and I’m looking forward to playing more events this summer and fall!
Stonykill July 2nd Storm Damage
A few years after the first two holes had been badly damaged and then restored, another massive storm hit stonykill in NY completely wiping out the first few holes again 😢
Recent convert to cycling dx firebirds
I've never had more fun in my 9 speed slot. Across different weights, it's amazing that I can have a firebird that can also turn into a thunderbird that can also be a savant that can also be a Valkyrie that can also be a sidewinder. It's so much fun to throw and even more fun to have cardmates ask "THAT was a Firebird??". Brilliant. Chefs kiss. Etc etc. Got the idea from this sub so cheers to all
Rasmus Saukkoriipi’s forehand
Watched the Ezra and Goose vs Vaelo and Rasmus video, and Rasmus FUXKING BOMBS!!
I mean the dude gotta throw the farthest forehands for a full touring pro, right?
I know he also smashes a backhand (won the 2025 Distance competition), with a 647’ (197.5m for the Europeans).
Im just baffled by his forehand distance, it seems so smooth (especially for a big guy throwing long forehands. Ive seen they tend to look like they force it more. Besides like Sullivan, Eagle and Big jerm, they’re super smooth).
But is there really anything special with his forehand mechanics, or is it just perfected over years and years with constant practice?
Feels like there’s something he does that shouldnt be overlooked.
The dude is also giant tho, like a smaller AB or taller Ezra type guy.
Bo McLaughlin shot a PERFECT ROUND of 18-under par with ALL BIRDIES at the GDG Spring/Summer Flex series (C-tier)! Unofficially a 1093-rated performance.
Bo McLaughlin on the topic of shooting 18-under par: "Did something that I thought I could only dream of, shot a perfect round. I honestly knew I could birdie every hole at this course, I’ve done it plenty of times. But to actually keep my composure for the last few holes and hit some 25-35 foot putts to finish was awesome. Truly a round I’ll never forget. "
I am no mad about this early morning cool weather round.
You all should probably envy me.
Mildly funny story from the course today
So I used to play a ton many years ago, then stopped playing, but got back into it when my step son said he's into disc golf this year. I pulled my bag of discs out from the 90s and early 00s and have been playing with them. Recently I decided to rebuild my bag and my form. So I got both a Hex and a Buzzz and decided to play a full round at a beginner friendly course using only those discs individually, head to head (separate times), to see which one to bag, since they're so similar. So one full round with the Hex, then one full round with the Buzzz.
So I got to the course and it was mildly busy, not crazy. But I was alone and playing behind a group of two. One guy was very clearly more experienced than the other and was teaching his friend how to play. They said I could play through. The hole is tricky as a fairly straight, downhill, 265 to the basket, but with tight tree cover on all sides and above.
I was running the Buzzz at this point, and stepped up and absolutely nailed the line. I was parked within 7 feet. Better than I've ever played that hole.
The inexperienced guy said to his friend, "Well why didn't you throw it like that?" The other responded, "Well I tried to!"
I just thanked them for letting me play through and went about my game, but it felt glorious. Hit the putt and moved on. But it felt wonderful.
Just hit the gap.
For context that pad is 4 feet wide and the frees are about 6 feet apart from each other.
When doing the right thing pays off
Someone reached out letting me know they found my disc. So I had them leave it at the course. When I picked it up and played a round, I found someone else's disc. Contacted them and apparently he had lost it a year ago at another course. It's also his favorite disc. So as a thank you he gave me these!
If you find a disc with a phone number, at the very least try to reach out before just throwing it in your own bag. Disc karma is real.and I think I've cashed all mine in for a while!
Any idea what disc this might be?
Found this completely unmarked disc today and have no idea what it could be. No stamp o r name on it, only says "driver" on the bottom. Throws like a flippy 9 speed. Hardest plastic I've ever thrown, stiff as a board even in today's 100 degree heat. Doesn't feel like typical disc plastic at all. Anyone know what this could be?
