Got my licence earlier this year and am fortunate enough to have gotten a lovely Ford Fiesta Ecoboost 2013 for my first car. Most of the time the car has been great, however it's been into the garage quite a few times due to this one knocking sound that comes and goes. The sound sounds like a helicopter, and it's intensity varies. Sometimes it's subtle sometimes it's really loud to the point where it drowns out the sound of the engine. It's most easily heard when idling stationary, but can also be heard when the car is running when you are off the throttle - on throttle it cannot be heard.
The mechanics cannot figure out what it is, and the sound seems to get worse with time, so am getting increasingly worried. The car has had a new wet belt, and it had engine oil leaks which have all been sorted now. Oil pump has been replaced too, among other things.
The car has only done 54k miles, if anyone can help me diagnose that would be great, I am getting very fed up with it and frustrated that the mechanics cannot diagnose it. I fear that at some point it's going to go pop.
I recently ordered a model from House of Model Cars, which is a well established model retailer from the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the order was not fulfilled, and wanted to share my experience (there was nowhere I could leave a review so I guess Reddit is the place).
Ordered a model car from House of Model Cars on 8 May, but after 18 days there was still no dispatch confirmation or tracking despite multiple follow-ups and questionable explanations. After I cancelled, they refunded me within hours and the model was reuploaded to their website shortly afterwards, strongly suggesting it had never actually shipped; they also failed to apologise or reinstate my €10 voucher.
(email screenshots have personal details removed)
8 May – Order placed for a 1/18 Looksmart Ferrari SF1000 BCN Test #16.
Order confirmation received.
18 May – After 10 days with no dispatch confirmation, tracking information, or updates, I emailed politely asking for an update. They responded the same day saying they would check the order status and get back to me shortly.
19 May – Having still received no meaningful update, I sent another email expressing concern that it had already been 11 days since placing the order.
20 May – They replied stating:
“Your order is on its way; there was a problem with the scanning process at the carrier’s depot. You’ll receive your tracking code within a few days.”
I found this explanation difficult to believe, particularly as most couriers usually generate tracking information before or at the point a parcel enters the courier network.
I then waited several more days to give them the opportunity to provide the promised tracking details.
26 May – After 18 days without any dispatch confirmation, tracking code, or clear proof the item had actually shipped, I requested cancellation of the order and asked for my €10 voucher either to be refunded or reinstated.
Within two hours, they processed a refund for the order. Additionally, the model was reuploaded within hours onto their site.
To me, this strongly suggests the item had not actually been dispatched. Had it genuinely already been shipped, I would reasonably have expected them to advise me to refuse delivery or arrange a return upon arrival. Furthermore, they cannot list a model they do not have stock of.
Unfortunately, they still have not refunded or reinstated the €10 voucher, nor have they apologised at any stage for the delay or lack of communication.
Something I also noticed just a few days after I placed my order (was looking at buying a 1/43 too), they increased the shipping cost to the UK from €20 to €200 🤷♂️
I understand many people have had positive experiences with House of Model Cars, and I’m glad that has been the case for them. Unfortunately, my experience was the complete opposite — and this is also not the first time I have experienced poor communication and delays from them, so, from experience, it is not a one off and is just consistently bad customer service and business practice.
Thanks for reading and hope everyone else has a better experience.
so pleased with it! one of the last remaining *original* GOATs in Motorsport still alive!
