Spark plugs

Just bought a mk7 1.25 fiesta zetec. No service history. 2010 with 127k miles

I know these engines are supposed to be bulletproof but running on what I believe are 16yr old “FoMoCo” spark plugs is unbelievable 😂

Recently bought a mk7 (2010) and have a couple of questions

As the title says, I have a new to me mk7 Zetec S. It's mechanically sound and what was initially going to be a runaround is going to be more of a long term thing. I have a couple of questions to ask that hopefully the community can help with though...

- Is there a way to make the cigarette lighter socket turn off when the ignition's not turned on? It's not a life or death thing but I do have a dashcam plugged into it, just every time I get in and out of it, I'm unplugging it and plugging it back in.

- Any efficient ways of getting Android Auto? In my old car I installed a double DIN head unit which I still have at home, but looking at the factory unit with the hazard light switch and door lock button built into it, I'm not sure that's a viable option. If anyone's got any suggestions for UK-based solutions, I'm all ears.

Any answers and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Whats your favourite minimal quality of life modification on yours?

Mine is making the 12v port ignition only instead of permanently fed

If you're interested:

The two fuse taps (yellow fuses in the top, other two are for my dashcam) are used to convert the 12 V socket (fuse position 22) from a permanent live supply to an ignition switched supply by using the rear windscreen wiper fuse as the donor circuit.

One fuse tap is fitted into the rear wiper fuse slot to take an ignition controlled feed. The second fuse tap is fitted into fuse position 22 which originally supplies the 12 V socket with a permanent live. In this setup the lower fuse position is left empty so the original permanent feed path is not completed, while the 20 A fuse in the upper position is kept to protect the socket circuit.

This means the 12 V socket only receives power when the ignition is on. The original circuit protection is still in place and no factory wiring is cut or modified.

The installation was checked with a multimeter to confirm correct operation and that there was no backfeed to the permanent live circuit. Total install time was about 20 minutes using fuse taps, a spare fuse, basic hand tools and the fuse box diagram.

Hello! Can anyone advise on the piece that is missing on the rear left of my Fiesta (2013)? I’d like to know what the part’s called to see if I can order a replacement online. Any advice on how easy it is to fit would be great too. Thanks in advance.

Ford fiesta SE 2011,

I have a **2011 Ford Fiesta SE**. As shown in the video, if I start the car and begin driving right away, it loses power, won't accelerate properly, and feels like it's about to stall. Sometimes a **wrench light** appears on the dashboard.

I've already replaced the **MAF sensor** and the **throttle body**, but the problem is still there. The scanner doesn't show any fault codes.

However, if I start the car and let it idle for about **5 minutes before driving**, it usually doesn't have the issue.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

Window issue

Guys I messed something up I guess on Fiesta mk8 2019. In Forscan i wanted to enable global open/close. I changed the value in asbuilt in DDM module. In BDYCM i enabled it and i added menu in IPC module. Only closing was working so i tried another value but from different Fiesta obviously. Now even after restoring a backup my driver window wont open. Switch works, tested in live pids. When i want to open it absolutely nothing happens nor sounds.

Any help is appreciated ;)

2016 Fiesta timing belt broke 2 years after getting a new cylinder head under warranty.

2016 Fiesta, ~125k miles. 1.0 Ecoboost engine. I have always kept an extended warranty from Ford on this car and it’s saved me from two major repairs previously. I currently have Ford CSP on it.

Back in 2024 the cylinder head was replaced under warranty due to a common issue with a weak spot in the integrated exhaust manifold cracking allowing coolant to leak into the exhaust. At the time I considered this to be a bit of a blessing in disguise as I know the wet timing belt on this engine is known to be failure prone and is more expensive to replace than a normal timing belt. So getting a new cylinder head would obviously mean having a new timing belt installed at that time too.

Anyway fast forward 2 years of no problem normal driving and my car suddenly had a crank no start issue after driving to work. I had it towed to the local dealer and the technician called me and told me it has no compression and needed to be torn down but they suspect the timing belt broke and it’s either going to be a full rebuild or replacement of the engine. The tech said timing belts most often break when turning the engine on or off which is why it may have happened when I parked at work. The idea the timing belt broke after only two years seems absurd and improbable unless the new belt was defective, or the other dealer that did the head job reused the factory belt which also seems absurd since it’s common sense to replace the belt when replacing the cylinder head.

I previously requested a full summary of the head job from that dealer (list of all parts replaced) and they never supplied it even though I asked several times. I remember making a comment to my old service advisor about being happy I wouldn’t have to worry about the timing belt for a long time after that repair and he didn’t make any comments to suggest they may have reused the stock belt. I already had found a while ago that they reused the original spark plugs due to a misfire, and I had figured those would have been replaced with the head too so I wouldn’t be totally shocked if they reused parts that should have been replaced while they were in there.

Anyway I’m not panicking about this but I am without a car for the time being and the dealer says I should have the full diagnosis by Monday afternoon. So what do you guys think, defective belt? The other dealer put the stock belt back in? Something else? If they did reuse the belt that will really frustrate me as belts are cheap and all the cost is in labor on that job, and I would have argued for it to be replaced at the time and would have even paid for the cost of the part just to have it done at that time if they told me they were putting the original back.

Please tell me I’m crazy for even suspecting they may have tried to reuse a timing belt when doing a cylinder head replacement.

Debate with dealer about issue on recently bought used Fiesta

So, I am hoping to get some opinions from you lovely car people.

I bought a 72 plate Ford Fiesta ST from a reputable independent dealership just under two months ago for £17k, with a part exchange. The car I bought only had 33k miles. The dealership is about an hours drive from me, but I bought it from them because they had the relatively rare 3-door version.

I recently took the car back to them because I noticed that there was a loud metallic squeaking sound coming from the car usually while parking or pulling away, which is intermittent but it happens frequently enough to be a serious annoyance.

The garage looked at the car, and their mechanics said it was likely to be an issue with the electric power steering motor, which apparently is common on Ford Fiestas.

Having done my own research, the issue with the steering components seems to be known to Ford and some people had them replaced under warranty. However, my car is about 9 months out of the Ford new car warranty period. It is however covered under the 3 month dealership warranty.

However, they said that because the issue is “within threshold” and does not affect the operating of the car, they are not willing to replace this steering component, as it is apparently quite a significant job. They have instead said that they will guarantee to fix it if it becomes a serious enough issue (?) within one year.

I am very unhappy with this as I do not want to have to suffer with the car making this noise, it drives me up the wall, and it gives me concerns about the safety of the car. They basically just said I have to live with it? This car is less than 4 years old with less than 35k miles. I find this to be plainly unacceptable. I spent £17k on it!!

I am planning to pick up the car soon and am meeting with them in person, not really sure what my best course of action is from here. I am very disappointed and am not afraid to voice this. I want the car to be fixed.

Please advise?

Ford Fiesta Stereo

Hello, I have a 2014 Fiesta that I'd like to get a new touchscreen stereo for. Anyone know of any that work good in it? My fiesta has the base model radio in it, and I'd preferably like to get a stereo that has Android Auto and preferably has a little more processing power (so it doesn't lag a ton or take 5 million years to load), if possible. Anyone that knows of some good ones for like $200-$350, I'd appreciate your input. Thanks

Is this a good deal? I know far more than I thought I would about Focus' but nada about the Fiesta

I've been doing a TON of research into buying a Ford Focus, but have overlooked the Fiesta. I'm looking for a fun commuter that will last me the next 4 years in college, basically something that I don't have to worry about breaking down in the vast expanse of nothing between Greenville, SC and CLT. I'm lacking in knowledge when it comes to the Fiesta, so how similar are they to the Focus? Same automatic transmission issues (not a problem for this ST)? Are they a different engine? Any reliability issues at high milage?? And most importantly, is this a solid deal? THANK YOU!!!!

Clutch Issues PLEASE HELP ME

Hi all!

I own a 2017 Zetec with about 35000 miles on it. Been having some problems lately.

I got the clutch replaced in Feb of this year - first car so it was bound to happen. Since then when starting the car, the clutch bite (this would happen occasionally btw) would become extremely low and gear would get stuck in place. Car would then stall and I would have to restart engine for it to work.

Moving on a few months to May / June. Every time I started the car, the bite would be extremely low. The bite would also become extremely low when driving or moving into higher gears. The past month it has been a nightmare to the point where I haven’t been able to drive it. When driving, it has stalled in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. The bite has become extremely low and the car starts moving on its own even with the clutch fully compressed. When driving, not only do I have to restart the engine (so dangerous when on high speed roads) as well as the clutch has lost all hydraulic pressure. Pumping the clutch usually solves the issue for one gear change then it has problems again.

I had some mobile mechanics come in a week ago just to tell me that the person who did my clutch did not bleed the system properly. They then bled the system. £150. I took the car out and it immediately started having issues. I park it, do my thing, then come back to my car to find a leak underneath. I tried to get this car home but it had a complete hydraulic failure - clutch lost all pressure and was persistently stalling without me even changing into gears above first. I had to get the car recovered!!!

Same mechanics came in two days ago and told me AGAIN that they just needed to bleed the system. I was absolutely persistent that it wasn’t going to help and was disgustingly gaslit into being told that it was fine. They also told me that the leak was just AC fluid?? Wtf guys. The fluid has literally left a stain on my driveway. It was driving fine when they tested it but I knew something was off. I suspect it’s a cylinder issue. Anyhoo. No fluid is leaking now so even a cylinder issue could be wrong. I took it out today and really struggled getting it home. It was having the exact same symptoms as before but drove fine for the first two miles.

I’ve called for a different mechanic to come today but I guess I’m asking advice on what it could potentially be and how to advocate for myself. I’m a woman and I don’t think they take me seriously. It’s fucked. I’ve told them twice now that bleeding it won’t help and they then turn around, bleed it and tell me that I need to be more confident with my car. Please for the love of god someone help me. I depend on this car for everything and I’ve been messed about so much for weeks.

Thank you!!!!

Back door lock not working

Ford fiesta 2016 1.4L 16V 5 doors. The back door left one does not take lock. Central locking works for all 4 doors except the left one. Even manual locking doesn't work.

Got it checked, apparently it's the part (image and ebay link) which needs changing.

Does anyone know if this is the right part from ebay, is the price okay?

Thanks

Any other phone mounts? (2014)

I’ve been eyeing up the Brodit as mentioned previously in another post. Anyone using something else that was cheap and effective?

Not keen on the CD mounts or one obstructing the screen.

TIA

Changing cabin/pollen filter on a 2011 Ford Fiesta

Is this something anyone can do? Is ot complicated? My air con has a musky smell and also causes me to cough! I don't really want to pay £60-£70 if I can avoid it though. Where abouts would it be as I've looked behind the glove box? Thanks.
