Mystery liquid looks different from expected in distillation apparatus
In my distillation apparatus, i mixed potassium nitrate, impure copper metal (90% copper and 10% zinc) and hydrochloric acid, I then bubbled resulting gas into water, and the liquid is black. This was a while ago, and I have been procrastinating on cleaning this out and figuring out how to dispose of it. Why is the liquid black? It lets an EXTREMELY small amount of light through, when I put a flashlight to it, i couldn’t see anything, only when i tilted the container to make it to make the liquid less than 2 mm thick over the light. did i see it has a yellow tinge. What did I make?
