Let me explain my theory: several ideas popped into my head, and I made some connections.

1. How the sun is depicted
The sun is always depicted with the same image, always accurate, and always repeated correctly. These characteristics aren’t typical of backrooms, which struggle to repeat things exactly the same way. Yet this drawing remains unchanged.

2. The type of illustration
The type of illustration is clearly iconographic, so much so that the place where Ravi encounters these paintings has always reminded me of a kind of church (if I’m not mistaken, there’s even a small organ on the side). It looks, in every way, like a religious representation of the sun; it’s certainly not a modern or accurate depiction.

These two elements led me to think that it’s strange that the backrooms are obsessed with this image of the sun.

3. The sun doesn’t exist in the backrooms
The sun, the sky, the clouds, the stars —none of these seem to exist in the backrooms. They seem like an infinite place, yet always enclosed. The backrooms seem to know the sun only through this specific image.

4. Why the sun should be important to the backrooms
We know that the sun played a central role in the first encounter with the backrooms, which occurred during a powerful solar storm, during which a green light is visible (this moment can be seen in the video Backrooms - Overflow, at 1:00). My theory is that the sun and magnetism are definitely at the heart of how backrooms works.

5. Backrooms exist in another dimension
In our reality, nothing comes from nothing. Matter cannot be created out of thin air. But in backrooms, this does happen, which means they exist in a different dimension from ours, with different rules. Backrooms generate new environments out of thin air using green light, which is undoubtedly connected to the sun (as shown in the video I mentioned above)

This led me to think about the foundations of a cult. But can rooms have a cult?

6. Backrooms might be "alive"
Put yourself in the shoes of a man who lived centuries ago, unable to explain how a plant or a fungus functions—organisms that have no mouth to breathe, no eyes to see, and seem more like inanimate objects than living beings. With modern technology, we can now explain life forms that were once incomprehensible.
What if backrooms followed a similar model? What if they were somehow “alive,” as a plant might be, with very little awareness ?
I thought about this because backrooms behave like a basic living organism: they continue to proliferate and reproduce, and the oldest parts decay.

If backrooms had some kind of life form and were vaguely aware of how important the sun is to their existence, it would explain why it is depicted in a religious manner and why there is this obsession about it.

ps. Fun fact: In an interview, Kane said that the only items he took home from the movie set were the sun paintings. Coincidence?
