Them 909 "Shmedium" shell sizing dilemma: Can a 28.5cm Intuition Premium Liner fit?
Hey everyone, I’m looking for some technical input on a specific setup I’m trying to pull off.
I’m struggling with the sizing/geometry of the Them 909 Shmedium shell and whether I can make it work with my current liner. Here are my exact stats:
- Foot measurement: 28.3cm length / 100mm width (pretty narrow).
- Liner: Intuition Premium Liner, Size 28.5cm (actual outer shell length is ~29cm).
- The Shell: Them 909 Shmedium (rated at 289mm inner length).
I’ve done the math: putting a 29cm outer-length liner into a 289mm shell seems like a guaranteed "toe-smash" scenario. I'm worried about the liner bunching up and killing my toes, especially since the Shmedium is known for being tight in the toebox.
The goal: I want a high-performance, precision fit with zero "slop" or swimming, but I don’t want to be in constant pain.
My questions:
- Has anyone successfully downsized into a Shmedium with an Intuition Premium Liner at this size?
- Will heat molding the liner actually provide enough room to compensate for that missing ~1-2mm of shell length, or is this physically impossible?
- Should I just ditch the Them and look for a shell with a true 295mm inner length (like the Faction Shell 29) to give the liner the room it needs to breathe?
I’m currently running a Ground Control FLT4 setup and aiming for a light, agile street rig. Any advice or experiences with this specific "hard" downsizing would be much appreciated!
