Good night and good luck Paramount…
I canceled my Paramount plus subscription the moment the East Coast broadcast ended. I thought I’d let them know why…
I hope that sentence conveyed what I really wanted to say which was more like this….
More than twenty years ago, Stephen Colbert coined the term “truthiness” to describe a trend in American politics that valued comfortable self-validating lies over facts. With one word Colbert astutely defined an emerging quality of a subset of our political culture that now dominates our government and has been allowed to erode our deepest American values and norms, including freedom of speech. This is not the first time a network has self censored to placate people in power, but it may be the most egregious. In the 1950s CBS executives attempted to marginalize Edward R. Murrow’s voice when he dared to speak truth to power. History remembers Edward R. Murrow, but it doesn’t seem to have bothered to remember those CBS executives. History won’t remember the names of the billionaire CBS executives who canceled the Late Show to bend the knee to a fascist, but it will remember the name Stephan T. Colbert, for his humor, his wisdom, his ministry and his voice.
Thank you Stephen. 🇺🇸
In the words of Ed Murrow, which feel more poignant now, good night and good luck you mother fuckers.
