MPC 2000 Classic Sound Problem

Trying to diagnose an issue with my Akai MPC2000 Classic running OS 1.72.

The unit powers on and appears to function normally overall. Pads work correctly and pass velocity/responsiveness tests, navigation/UI is fine, and I can load samples from floppy disks and create programs. However, whenever I trigger samples, I only hear a very subtle static/noise-like sound instead of the actual sample audio.

I tested all outputs:
• headphones
• stereo out L/R
• assignable out 1
and get the same result on all of them.

Programs are routed correctly and I’ve tried manually loaded WAV files and custom programs. The issue persists regardless.

*I also haven’t yet been able to test with a known-working MPC2000 .PGM/.APS/.ALL disk image, so currently all testing has been done with manually imported WAV files and self-made programs.

The second issue is that whenever I try to sample audio the MPC crashes and needs to be restarted.

Has anyone seen this specific combination of:
1. noisy/silent sample playback
2. crashes during sampling
on an MPC2000 Classic before?

Looking for specific diagnostic steps or known failure points rather than general routing/output suggestions.

Note that in the video, I’ve set the gain of the monitors to +12db so that you can hear the noise.
