2015 MK7 Audio crossroads
So I have a 2015 MK7 that I bought a little over a year and a half ago and I love it... For the most part.
I have that awfully dated MIB 1 Fender system and I am dying to get some Android Auto if only for the Map's and YT Music interface. I have looked over some of the guides and the process seems - intimidating.
I have a VCDS that I bought for an eventual motorized mirror upgrade that I plan to do this summer. My father in law is also an F&I for a VW dealership. I only mention this to maybe help give context to what the best path forward is for me.
I have seen everything from the guide to do the base head unit swap for ~200 and reprogramming needed for the MIB1 to MIB2 processor swap. I have also seen kits online for 1200+ for what seems like just the head unit with a MIB2 unit as well?
Has anyone here done the swap themselves? Did you have to do anything special for the Fender system? I also have a pair of HERTZ component speakers that I really like but not sure if it's worth the trouble of the swap given that the amplification unit is tied to the head unit.
I guess what I am getting it is that I am looking for some recommended paths for an upgrade give what I have and what I have access to. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!
