Rejection with a Tourist Visa in BKK?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some practical advice about entering Thailand with an approved Tourist Visa.
I’m an Austrian passport holder. My recent Thailand history is:
- Jan–Jun 2025: stayed in Thailand on an ED visa for an exchange semester
- July 2025: short tourist visit, around 2 weeks
- Feb–May 2026: stayed in Thailand for 90 days on visa exemption + extension for traveling the countryside
- Left Thailand 1st May 2026 and have been in Vietnam since then.
- Planned Travel to Thailand from 2nd June - 8th July - Onward flight to Shanghai
I applied for a Thai Tourist Visa. The embassy requested additional documents, which I submitted, and I’m now waiting for final approval. My plan is to enter Thailand only once the Tourist Visa is approved, with hotel booking, onward ticket, and proof of funds ready.
How risky is it to enter Thailand in this case with an approved Tourist Visa? Is there still a realistic chance of being denied entry at BKK because of my previous Thailand stays, or would an approved Tourist Visa usually make this reasonably safe?
I’m not trying to live in Thailand illegally or do border runs. I’m just trying to understand how strict immigration is in practice for someone with my history, even when entering with a valid Tourist Visa.
Thanks for any recent experiences or advice.
