My first week with my new Xteink 4
After waiting almost two weeks (constantly checking tracking info), my X4 finally arrived.
I unboxed, charged, and turned it on. Ok this is cool. While playing with the settings accidentally I switched the language from English to Chinese, and then flipped the screen orientation and the side buttons while trying to get the language back to English. I had to Google how to switch the language. Then I tried loading some books. Using the app I tried pushing a book to the device and got error messages whenever I tried opening the file. OK fine. Whatever. I plugged the SD card into my computer and loaded three books that way. Nope, more error messages, still can't open the books. Finally I decided the SD card must be bad, so I scavenged one from an old MP3 player. Loaded books onto it, popped it into the reader. No problems opening the books. Yay! Now I can read books. (Must have been a bad SD card.)
I carried it around with me for about 5 days, took it to work, kept it nearby around the house, and read as I had a few minutes free here and there. Cool! This little device is fun! I can have a book in my pocket all the time!
Last night I decided to try installing Crosspoint. This should be easy. I read the instructions, used the unlocker just in case that would be an issue, and installed Crosspoint. Everything seemed to be ok until I tried to open the book I had been reading. First it froze on indexing......multiple times. I was finally able to open the book when Crosspoint went into this loop of Booting....crash....Booting....crash....Booting....freeze...crash. (OMG! I just bricked my X4! Can I uninstall Crosspoint? No?? Oh no! What have I done?) Before I gave the thing up for lost, I tried the other two books I had loaded. They opened and indexed fine and I was able to read them. Hmmmm..... I had an idea. I removed the file of the one book that seemed to be causing problems, and then reloaded it onto the SD card. After that it indexed and opened fine. Crosspoint was a little bit glitchy again this morning, but so far today everything has been running smoothly. I guess something was wrong with that one book or maybe the file got corrupted during the install.
I used to think I was pretty tech savvy, but my X4 has almost kicked my butt twice in one week. I'm afraid to do anything but read books on it now. 😅But if that is all I ever get out of it, it's still worth it.
Has anyone else ever had any of these issues? Or am I just terrible at ereader technology?
