A way to get the course seat you want

Hello guys, I developed a webapp called SeatStalker which notifies you when a course seat you want is empty. Its as simple as creating an account and adding the courses you want to the watchlist, and when a seat opens up in the courses you've watchlisted, you get a notification on your registered email.

This service helps you grab the opened up seat quickly, and also saves you the hassle of checking manually everyday.

Important: You require a [gmail.com] email to register. It seems a bit counter intuitive, but UMD emails have filtering systems which break my whole registration system. I will try to find an actual solution to this, but until then, SeatStalker will only accept [gmail.com] accounts for registration.

I have also limited the number of courses/sections one can monitor because of the constraints I face with the services I use to send emails / run the backend. I will have to spend money out of my pocket to remove these limitations.

It can be advantageous for:

  1. Those who change their upper level course permission considerably late and want to get into a closed section.
  2. People who typically get late course registration dates as compared to their peers who are in the same grade.
  3. Those who cannot be on the waitlist due to credit limits or the course is capped (CMSC216 - Kauffman for example).
  4. People who want to switch sections to make their schedule better.

Once you get the course seat you wanted, you can just remove the course from your watchlist, and perhaps add another one if you wish to do so. At the bottom of the landing page, you will find my contact info, which you can use to contact me if you want to report any bugs or give me any suggestions on how to improve anything. I rarely use reddit, and would much rather communicate through discord.

Please note that this is a student built project which is in no way affiliated with the University. All the data featured is scraped from the public Testudo course registration website (testudo.umd.edu). For more information, find the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service linked at the bottom of the website.

This works for all courses, not just CS ones. So people from any major can try it out.

My contact info is at the bottom of the launch page, which can be used to give me suggestions on how I can improve the service or to report bugs.

EDIT 1: We've crossed 15 users! Might seem small but a huge milestone for me. Thank you to everyone who signed up!
