Why haven’t UST projectors replaced TVs yet? The tech seems ready

Was looking at the newer 2026 USTs — the AWOL Aetherion, Hisense PX3-Pro, stuff like that. They seem insane. Crazy bright triple lasers, huge color range, low lag for gaming, 100+ inches from like a foot away from the wall.

somehow "just buy a TV" is still what everyone says. I think part of it is the screen thing. Nobody tells you upfront that you kinda need a $1000 ALR screen on top of the projector to get a really good picture. That's a surprise when you're already spending $4K+ on the projector itself. And then there's the whole "projector must be in the dark room" thing that's stuck in everyone's head. Like, the newer laser ones actually look fine with some light in the room, but most people have no idea,I guess. Also you literally can't see one before you buy it. Best Buy has like 50 TVs lined up but finding a UST actually set up properly in a store. So you're basically gambling $4K based on YouTube reviews. I'll give the TV side one thing though. Even the newer USTs with better contrast still can't touch a $1500 OLED when the lights are off. Anyone here actually daily-driving a UST as their main TV?

Bought the Aetherion Max for World Cup watch parties

Original plan: big screen for World Cup, have friends over, go back to normal after July. Haven't turned on our old 65-inch since. The watch party thing worked perfectly — 8 people, 120-inch screen, everyone can see. But what surprised me is 3300 lumens handles our bright living room fine during the day. Only complaint: built-in speakers need help for groups. Grabbed a soundbar and it's sorted. Anyone else buy theirs for one specific thing and end up using it for everything?
