John Von Neumann is arguably the most gifted individual that ever lived, with his cognitive abilities maxed out in every category. He had near photographic memory, inhumane working memory capacity, extremely fast processing speed and exceptional abstraction ability.
Most importantly this was relative to other top mathematicians and physicists at the time who even acknowledged they couldn’t keep up with him. Neumann would solve problems before others could even fully understand them.
He was a true polymath that made multiple world class contributions across various fields in physics, mathematics, game theory, economics, computer science. Without him we wouldn’t have computers, modern game theory or have mathematically formalized quantum mechanics
However the most unusual thing about Neumann is that he was known charismatic, social, funny and loving parties and gossip. I honestly don’t understand how such a gifted human being could be such a juxtaposition to our own experiences being gifted socially. I personally find it difficult to relate to many people, and struggle socially, much less understand the concept of gossip.
What are your takes on Neumann’s unusual demeanor?
