Janos Tavern Patron Captured, Appearance Randomized
Discussions about KO'ing tavern patrons have popped up a bit over the past several weeks. I've posted tips in those discussions, as well as shared some of the odd things that can happen during the process if a bound KO'd thrall teleports away before being placed in a Wheel of Pain or Gibbet.
UPDATE: It has been corrected that the appearance is not randomized. Info below has been updated to accurately describe what is happening.
Basically, as soon as an NPC teleports away, their appearance data gets wiped. If you get them onto a thrall station within the small window of them teleporting away and being despawned by the game, one of two things can happen—
- If that particular station has not had a thrall in it since the last server reset, the thrall you have bound will default to a male Exile with white hair. It has no visual data. This is the default.
- If that particular station has had a thrall in it since the last reset, then the thrall you have bound will adopt the visual data of that previous thrall.
This just happened to me when I spotted a very obvious Janos enter my Tavern. I don't really care about getting another Janos, so I was being pretty slow and sloppy KO'ing him within the 15 second window you have to KO a tavern NPC. You can see at 00:17 that my Bindings snap tight as Janos teleports away off-screen right before I place him in the Gibbet. I place him, but now his appearance has become a brunette woman.
If memory serves, the last thrall I had in the Gibbet was a random T1-T3 Bearer that I was converting just so I could take their equipment for transmog purposes. So since Janos' appearance data was lost when he teleported away briefly, his appearance became the Bearer I had last placed in the Gibbet.
Just wanted to provide this example so people can see how this can happen to tavern thralls when they're being KO'd and dragged around.
(I should add I'm playing Conan Exiles Legacy on PS5 on an Official PvE-C server. Obviously no mods or anything.)
