Reddit Writers & Other Creators: What do you make of all this, Marvin? [August 19, 2026]

Goals and hopes for the week?

Any concerns or obstacles?

Let's find out.

##Topic of the Week:

The words "tourist", "LARP", and a bunch of others have sort of become buzzwords recently, but the idea of some sort of gatekeeping has always been around. As probably could be guessed by my tone, I don't always have the greatest opinion on gatekeeping due to how fandoms often act even without people getting pissy that someone could possibly have things they are weirded out by.

THAT BEING SAID, it is also self evident that another thing that has always been around but amplified by the internet is people speaking in things they either know very little or nothing about. I am not sure if I would even say that these are opposite ends of the spectrum since I see both things happen in the same breath by the same people.

Either way, I am of two minds regarding uninformed opinions. I do have resentment for anyone who does not have the humility to admit when they do not know something and even more resentment when they refuse to correct themselves or learn.

But on the other hand, everyone does indeed have the right to an opinion, and even uninformed opinions can be useful in a way since with very few exceptions, the vast majority of people would not know much about a given topic. So knowing what the impressions are can be interesting and can be a point of reference for a lot of stuff.

Still, maybe we should ease up on being loud and wrong.

Let's find out.

Topic of the Week:

Aight, imma keep it real with ya, chiefs. The mind goblins have been mounting a continuous siege for the last several weeks and the walls are on fire.

We all find ways of trying to find motivation to continue working on creative stuff, but trying to fight the voice in your head is another. How do you all try to fend off the goblins?

Reddit Writers & Other Creators: Now watch me whip. [June 10, 2026]

This is kind of building off of two other past threads.

You all have probably heard of "trying to do too many things," and while tonal whiplash is not quite the same thing, I feel the times when said whiplash feels off is at least partly because of conflicting ideas.

That being said, it isn't like the dissonance is always accidental or negative, since much like shocking content, purposeful contrasts can complement each other or at least soften each other. It is probably why dark comedies are a thing, but on that same hand, it can feel icky or callous if the delivery is off.

Reddit Writers & Other Creators: BECAUSE I STILL HATE YOUUUUUUU [May 20, 2026]

Creator spite sure is fun! Nothing brings me more joy than the deterioration of happiness and the proliferation of misery.

Jokes aside, I feel we generally understand that creators will always put some of themselves and their emotions into their work no matter how much they or others want to completely divorce that fact from the creation. I bring that up since one of those emotions would be anger.

There are of course plenty of times when audiences randomly assume that a creator is doing something out of spite (especially when taking a statement out of context) and making a sweeping statement in either direction may be missing the mark since motivations and feelings are not so cleanly divided.

That being said... Yeah, there are also plenty of times where it certainly feels like a creator is offloading some anger at either society, their environment, certain people and/or things, or even specific types of mentalities.

Any concerns or obstacles?

Fate/destiny is one of those nearly omnipresent tropes, even when not a direct theme. This makes sense since determinism, fatalism, and some aspects of existentialism are concerned with it, and it is something that has probably plagued the human mind for as long as we have had coherent thoughts and the capacity to self-perceive.

Whatever could be said has either already been directly stated before or has been similarly expressed. For instance, I personally don't entirely resonate when fate is made to be solely an external force that can be overcome, as I typically don't care for entirely offloading deep internal struggles to the external. While I haven't finished God of War: Ragnarok, I do know the idea of fate just being the logical conclusion of choices made is discussed.
