Part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CZGbh9

Rough budget: $2500

Goals:

  • video games
  • Some semblance of aesthetics (read the "Case, Fan, Aesthetics" section below)
  • Ram in dual channel mode
  • Relatively quiet with good airflow
  • Planning to switch to Linux Mint

I want a significant leap from my current PC and to be future proofed for a long while, so chose the CPU/GPU on that basis.

Planning to take a trip up to Microcenter for a Ryzen 7 9800x3D (or better) bundle. I built the above part list around this bundle. Should I risk waiting for a better bundle or is that one solid? Not sure if the included motherboard is good, the ram seems to be good.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

  • The price in my list is of the microcenter bundle, so it includes mobo/ram

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB

  • Is this cooler sufficient?

GPU: RTX 5070 ti

  • May hold off on getting a new GPU right away until it gets closer to MSRP or a deal comes along. Maybe I'm coping a little bit here and with the SSD prices lol.

SSD / RAM

  • Just on principle I'm not paying for a 2tb SSD at their current prices (nearly $500). I stole the SSD/HDD from my current PC in this list. Really didn't want to have to do that, but it brings the price down by a significant amount, I can always pop in another m.2 SSD later.

Case, Fans, Aesthetics

  • Aesthetics weren't something I considered for my last PC so I'd like some help here. I have the Lian Li Vector case selected as a stand-in, you are welcome to suggest a better one (I do like the way it looks though). Want a mainly black case.
  • I'm not familiar with colored lights/fans or software, would like to be able to do full RGB but also choose a static color or turn the lights off.
  • Do these types of cases have good airflow?
  • My current PC's PSU is non-modular and has very stiff cables / thick cables (that don't fit through most of my case's cable holes), so I wasn't able to do any nice cable routing. Would like to be able to properly manage my cables this time around.
  • [ Would be nice, not important ]: I wouldn't mind getting a smaller case (and sacrificing the HDD trays), assuming airflow wouldn't take a major hit compared to an ATX mid tower case. But smaller case is not a priority (it can sit under my desk regardless)

Current PC for reference:

  • i5-7600k / Asus PRIME Z270-P mobo
  • MSI RTX 3050 8GB (Not sure of the exact model)
  • The 1660 super is not installed, I have it in its box currently
  • 32 GB (4x8gb) DDR4-3000
