I’m genuinely curious: If you were initially skeptical or flat-out against GLP-1s for weight loss, what or who changed your mind? What specifically convinced you?
Yes, I will go first: I tried Saxenda several years ago (the first GLP-1 approved for weight loss) and had *horrible* side effects. I didn’t notice any difference in my eating/ BED—just constant nausea/vomiting. I ended up stopping after 6 months.
Fast forward several years later to when my PCP asked about Wegovy or Zepbound, I was like, “Pfft, no thanks!” I explained that I wasn’t interested in something that didn’t work for me *and* had such miserable side effects. He walked me through several charts highlighting key differences in clinical trial data between Saxenda and the newer drugs, noting that the side effect rates were much lower and the medication itself was more effective), and after thinking about it for several months, I decided to try again with Zepbound.
Within 24 hours, I could feel something had changed in brain’s chemistry on an almost visceral way (more peaceful, more regulated, and more relaxed). My brain was finally free.
The expected and *unexpected* benefits just kept coming from there!
I just had my 2-year Zepiversary last week, and I’ve never had a better relationship with food, exercise, or my body. I’m so glad I gave GLP-1s another chance, and I’ll never go back.
