I'm gonna take him to the vet

I've had him for a little over a year. He was 3 when I got him. He's had this thick rock hard spot that won't go away. Some of it is shed which I have gotten off before however baths don't seem to really loosen it up. Is it maybe something else? Should I take him to get checked out? Kind answers only. He's my first lizard and I'm still learning.
