I finally figured out why my towels never felt truly fresh

I finally figured out why my towels never felt truly fresh, even though I washed them after every few uses. For the longest time I thought it was just because my washing machine was getting old, but I eventually realized I had been using way too much detergent and fabric softener. They always smelled fine right out of the wash, but after drying off once, they'd already have that weird damp smell again. I tried washing them with less detergent and ran an extra rinse cycle, and the difference was honestly bigger than I expected. Now they actually stay fluffy, absorb water properly, and still smell clean days later.
