Glock Warranty Customer Service

After purchasing a used Glock 21 Gen 4 .45 ACP Complete Slide Barrel Spring Assembly from a vendor on ebay, I encountered a problem while test-firing. The weapon jammed after the third round. I stopped my session.

Disassembly at home revealed the safety plunger tilted over into the extractor channel. With some difficulty it, as well as the safety plunger spring was removed using forceps.

I verified there was no observable damage to the safety plunger bore, and having another "large-frame" safety plunger in my parts bag, I attempted to reinstall/re-seat the extractor and safety plunger, but the "large-frame" plunger would not fit/drop into the bore. Visually comparing the safety plunger I had just removed, and the spare "large frame" plunger I had on hand I noticed they were different. I dropped the plunger I had removed from the frame into the bore and noticed it was not a tight/interference fit as intended... I was able to "wiggle" the plunger in the bore, with noticeabe side to side play.

It seems the/a previous owner of the G21/Gen 4 slide inserted a "small-frame" plunger into the safety plunger bore simply because the larger, yet correctly sized "large frame" safety plunger would not fit. The bore seemed to be too small for the correct plunger, yet too large for the smaller plunger; the smaller plunger could drop in the bore but moved around because it was not a snug fit. When I tested-fired, the stress of the weapon being fired allowed the plunger to "tilt" over and wedge itself in the extractor channel.

I know this is getting to be a long "short" explanation of events, but here is the most meaningful part of the story.

On May 6, I emailed GLOCK with as clear and concise information as I could recall regarding the failure. I explained that I bought the slide used from an ebay seller. I had no knowledge of it's previous history. Returning it to the seller wasn't an option because of the length of time which had elapsed from delivery until test firing, where it failed.

The next day, May 7th, I received a reply, including instructions on how to send it in, along with a form to fill out explaining the issue with the slide. On the form, I indicated, "Safety plunger bore appears to be out of spec." Further, the form itself indicated, "For Evaluation." I sent it to Glock in Smyrna, USPS Priority Flat Rate Box, and added insurance. The only information I have is that it was delivered May 13.

On June 2 FedEx shows up at my house and I need to sign for a box. It's marked G.I, as a return address. I open it and inside is my slide. Just a single sheet but it doesn't indicate what was done.

I double-check the serial number because it doesn't look a bit like the slide I sent them. This thing looks brand-spanking new. I was wondering if they replaced the slide and re-tooled the serial number on it or what. I doubt it, but that's how clean this slide looks. They must have refinished the slide; there's not a mark or scratch on it.

I checked the safety plunger bore, since that's where the problem was, and sure as sin, the correct "large-frame" safety plunger drops right in.

They didn't charge me a cent... not even for the FedEx, signature-required delivery.

THIS... is what GREAT Customer Service is all about. Thank you Glock Warranty Service.
