Resources for beginners

My wife and I recently closed on a small lot in a rural area onto which we intend to retire. It is positioned near a seasonal dry creek bed that serves as a natural drainage course during rainfall events, but typically doesn't have much surface water most of the year. In the short time we have owned the lot, I have met more than one local resident that has been quite successful finding points on their property, so there is a non-zero probability arrowheads are in the area. I am very interested in seeking these out... but don't know where to start.

Might someone point me to some beginner resources or offer some tips on best approach to start hunting for points as a total beginner... I mean, other than obviously just looking? I thought the dry creek might be a good place to start. I'm not sure how much "excavating" will be involved, but everything I would be doing will be limited to hands and hand tools. Are there clubs our other groups that might be a good place for someone new to learn from others?

Thank you for any general newbie-guidance or advice!

Sonos display at Costco

I purchased my first Sonos equipment back in April of this year... a pair of Era 100SL speakers direct from Sonos. I was impressed with how easy and intuitive the set up was and more so with how well they sounded in my small rental (~84 square meters).

I added a Sub Mini a few weeks later based on the many positive comments in this sub. I don't have anything negative to say about the addition, but I wouldn't say it was an earth-shattering difference at the levels I usually listen to music as the Era 100SL's do surprisingly well imho.

In June, there was a Sonos sale being advertised at Costco on Era 100 and I justified adding the a pair to another room to take advantage of the sale. I ordered online and simply picked up at the store. So, at this point, I've not actually seen Sonos on display in Costco.

A few days ago, I happened to be in Costco waiting on my elderly father to pick up some things and was wandering. I saw the Sonos display with one of the Beams, an Arc Ultra, a Sub 4 (I think), and a pair of Era 100 speakers. They had it rigged to where you could select the speakers you wanted to hear and it would start a playlist that you could cycle through to demonstrate different genres of music.

It appeared to be a pretty neat set up to "try before you buy"... except that it sounded like complete rubbish. I was shocked at how horrible the audio experience was as a would-be consumer standing in front of the Sonos premiere product offerings. I have been saving for an Arc Ultra and Sub for when I move into a bigger place, but if I'm honest, I would not even consider a purchase if all I had to go on was the Costco display. I wonder if Sonos knows how poorly they are being represented.

At any rate, thanks to this sub and the many positive testimonials regarding Arc Ultra, Era 300 surround, and Sub combo, I am not deterred (yet?)... but I did want to ask if you have had a similar experience with the marketing demo display or if this is a one-off at the store I was in... it definitely planted the seed in my mind that I may be making a mistake investing in the Sonos home theater solution.

Should I be concerned?

Flat vs Vaulted ceilings and SONOS

Looking for real world experience and advice related to surround performance (and specifically ATMOS) of a SONOS-based home theater in a room with a flat 10-foot high ceiling versus a room with a higher (~16 foot) vaulted ceiling.

Is there a noticeable difference or is this largely handled with TruePlay tuning and the difference in end result is fairly negligible?

We are fairly set on upgrading to an Arc Ultra/Sub 4/Era 300 configuration when we upgrade our television later this year, but I'm concerned about building this in a vaulted room versus something with closer reflective surfaces. Any shared tribal knowledge is appreciated.

Supercell over the prairie.

Mature, arguably supercell-type cumulonimbus clouds checking in... you know, for the contest.

Why does my Sub Level keep resetting to zero?

I have a SubMini in my main listening area and set the "Sub Audio" sub level to +3... yet seemingly daily, it will reset itself to zero. Is this user error? What am I missing?

TIA!

When a speaker drops out...

Fairly new to Sonos. I've been running a stereo-paired Era 100SL and SubMini combo in my one-room/studio rental for a little while and it's be spectacular. Until yesterday, I have not experienced any significant ghost-in-the-machine type stuff I read about on this sub regularly.

Thanks to a post here, I was able to opportunistically capture the sale price at Costco on a stereo-pair of Era 100's that I wanted to add to my room. (I have since discovered I can't have two stereo pairs in the same "room", but can play two rooms at the same time.)

Everything went smooth adding the 100's and going through tuning. I did notice the 100's have a quick vs. advanced fork at the beginning of the Trueplay process that does not exist with the 100SL's... anyone have some deets on that? Anyhoo, as soon as I had them set up and tuned, I went to re-tune the 100SL's (as they moved physical location in the room) and one of the speakers wouldn't play... not just for Trueplay, but at all. I easter egg troubleshot with things like removing and re-adding, unplugging and rebooting it, etc. In the end, I don't know if anything I did actually did anything at all... it seems like just some time allowed it to recover.

My guess this is a network sync issue and the pair just needed to sort out communication on the WiFi before it rejoined the living. I'm not here to bitch about it, but really just want to learn. This is my first hiccup (statistically, probably won't be the last) and I'm looking for tribal knowledge from Sonos vets.

Is this expected behavior on a WiFi desync? Is it common? Anything I can do to prevent it from happening?

(the WiFi in use is a Starlink base and mesh router combo, but I think all Sonos speakers were associated with the mesh satellite at the time of the incident)
