We need a simple toggle to switch between “Movie Mode” and “Music Mode” without having to reconfigure our system every time.

Sonos. Please do this. This is the number one software update we need - stop posting all these playlist updates as if they are the most requested. Theyre not.

Folks who have the eras should be able to use them to their best ability aand you have borked the system with your poor software choices.

Sub mini ? Sub gen 2 ?

New nullPlayer release 0.27.0 -- New compact window, improvements and bugfixes - get it for macOS on github or homebrew

https://github.com/ad-repo/nullplayer/releases/tag/0.27.0

# one-time configuration
brew tap ad-repo/nullplayer

brew install --cask ad-repo/nullplayer/nullplayer

or if already installed manually
brew install --cask --force ad-repo/nullplayer/nullplayer

To upgrade to a new release:
brew update
brew upgrade --cask ad-repo/nullplayer/nullplayer

New Features

  • Compact Window adds a free-floating mini player — the Windows menu and main-window context menu now include Compact Window, which uses the same compact Library Browser mini-player as Compact Mode but keeps NullPlayer as a regular Dock/menu-bar app. It hides only the main window, leaves Playlist/EQ/Spectrum/Library/visualization windows where they are, uses normal window level unless Always on Top is enabled, can be dragged from both the player bar and browser area, remembers its frame, and restores across launches.
  • Balance control added to Playback menu — the Playback options now include a Balance submenu with a slider and common left/center/right presets, giving modern UI and menu-only workflows access to stereo balance without adding more controls to the player face.

Improvements

  • Modern and Metal UI now use a modern system font — the retro low-fi bitmap font (Departure Mono) has been replaced throughout the Modern and Metal windows — Library tabs and headers, the main window, playlist, EQ, and spectrum — with the crisp macOS system font. Time and track digits stay monospaced so they don't jitter. Skins that ship their own custom font still render it as before.
  • License and branding terms clarified — the project license notice and README now state GPL-3.0-only distribution terms and clarify that modified distributions must not reuse the NullPlayer name, icon, logo, bundle identity, or other branding without permission.
  • Compact Mode player bar reads like the main window — in Modern and Metal, the Compact Mode display now splits into two distinct LCD "windows" with a padded gap: a single elapsed/remaining time counter on the left and the scrolling track title on the right (previously the title sat left with a cramped "elapsed / total" reading pinned to the right). The counter matches the title's size and weight, and the transport buttons are slightly larger.
  • Larger Library tab and control fonts — the Library Browser's tab labels and control text render at a slightly larger size in non-compact mode for better legibility. Compact Mode is unchanged.

Changes

  • Window shade mode removed — double-clicking a window's title bar no longer collapses it to a title-bar-only strip ("windowshade"). This legacy Winamp feature was the source of recurring layout glitches when combined with Large UI, Compact Mode, and live UI-mode switching; removing it makes window sizing and position memory behave consistently across every window in Classic, Modern, and Metal.
  • Library source menu lists only sources — the Library Browser's source picker no longer injects local-library settings ("Manage Folders…" and the "Clear Local Library" submenu) when the local source is active. Those are settings, not sources, and already live in the Library menu-bar item, so the source menu now lists sources only.

Bug Fixes

  • Metal skin transport icons are now fully filled — the previous/next (and eject) icons in the Metal finishes no longer show a stray light vertical line: the icon bars now draw in the same transport-button color as the rest of the glyph instead of the skin's light primary color.
  • Plex Artists no longer show duplicate same-name rows — the Library Browser now groups Plex artist records with the same display name into one visible artist row in both classic and modern UI. Expanding, playing, or queueing that row still fans out across every underlying Plex ratingKey, so albums and tracks attached to duplicate server-side artist records remain accessible instead of being hidden.
  • Compact Mode art ratings fit the small UI — the modern Library Browser's art-view rating stars now shrink in Compact Mode, preventing them from crowding or overlapping the source/library picker row.
  • Compact Window no longer reopens the main window after Space switches — returning from another desktop or fullscreen app now focuses the floating compact mini-player instead of treating the hidden main window as something to restore, so Compact Window stays a one-window main-player replacement until you exit it.
  • Library window remembers where you put it — after unlocking the connected windows and moving the Library/browser window, it now reopens at the exact position and size you left it — across closing and reopening it (via the menu or the red close button) and across full app restarts, even when it was closed at quit. First-ever opens still dock to the right of the window stack, and the position survives Compact Mode. Playlist, EQ, and Spectrum still intentionally snap back into the column below the main window.
  • Classic Large UI toggles instantly — no restart — turning Large UI on or off in the classic skin now resizes the windows in place, matching the modern UI, instead of asking you to relaunch. The player, EQ, playlist, and other windows redraw crisply at the new size (no leftover "ghost" of the old size), and switching between Classic, Modern, and Metal while Large UI is on no longer distorts the new look.
  • ProjectM visualizer recovers from a preset that crashes mid-playback — a rare bug inside the MilkDrop preset engine could crash the app while a preset was on screen — including minutes into a track, not just when the preset first appeared. The crash-guard now watches a preset for its entire time on screen (previously only its first frame), so the offending preset is automatically skipped on the next launch and the crash never recurs. Normal quits never flag a good preset.
  • Metal playlist and Library highlights are now clearly visible — in Metal skins, the playlist's now-playing track and the Library Browser's selected/expanded row were indicated by text color alone, which several metal finishes render nearly identical to normal rows, so the active row was easy to miss. Both now draw a translucent green backlit-LCD highlight bar (matching the hi-fi display panels) as the cue. The metal playlist's row text is also unified at the Library window's brightness — previously it was dimmer — and the current track no longer recolors to the accent tone that clashed with the new highlight.

Question about White portable speakers

Looking into getting a play, but curious about the white vs black. The white would seem to better in the sun but I’m curious how the white has held up with discolouration. (Perhaps not the play because it’s new, but the other models )

Sonos/Ubiquiti Households: has disabling Sonosnet solved your issues?

I am planning to upgrade my home’s network equipment and replace my tenda router and assorted switches with Ubiquiti gear. Just one problem: I have 11 Sonos speakers/amps/ports, a mix of old (playbar/play:1) and new, wired and wireless, and they have been rock solid for the ten months we have lived here using otherwise lackluster equipment. I’ve heard the horror stories about Sonos systems on Ubiquiti networks and am curious if the new option to disable sonosnet has solved the issues people were having.

For context, I am not able to wire everything, and I have WiFi turned off on all of the wired devices except for my port, which needs WiFi to take advantage of my AVR’s “Works With Sonos” featured (which wakes the AVR and tunes it to the Port’s input when playing anything over the Port).

Arc vs arc ultra? Users please guide. How much of a difference is it? Still upset about missing the Walmart deal for Arc😭 but trying to convince maybe let’s buy ultra for regular 15-20% discount that comes seasonal.

Vaulted ceilings

Installed Sonos Arc Ultra, Sub 4 & (2) Era 300’s. Need more sound!
This is a new custom home so I ran speaker wire for (3) front, (2) rear & (2) ceiling. All in a vaulted living room/kitchen. Floor plan also opens to foyer & dinning, both with tray 10ft ceilings.
Haven’t decided on a final wired system so I went with Sonos for now. The 300’s are in the back above the kitchen cabinets. Had hoped to build the final setup by adding to the Sonos setup. Oops!

My system REFUSES to use a Sub no matter what I try

**UPDATE**: After several hours on the phone with support, it was determined that the Arc Ultra wasn’t (or couldn’t) find a home channel for the sub to connect to. After yet another round of factory resets and ton of diagnostics, we were finally able to get it to do what it needed to do. How did we fix it? Idk. I just know it works now.

I've tried using both a Sub 3 and a Sub Mini, noting that I know they can't be used at the same time.

I have an Arc Ultra hooked up to an AppleTV 4K. The Arc Ultra is working fine. I've tried playing music through Apple Music as well as a bass heavy scene in a movie. There's zero sound coming out of the Sub Mini. The light on the back of the Sub Mini is solid white.

The Sonos app is showing the Arc Ultra and Mini both in my living room under Products. Pairing was all done through the app, including an update to the Sub Mini. WiFi is showing as enabled on both the Arc Ultra and Sub Mini in the Sonos app.

The Sub Mini is brand new, purchased today.

The Sonos app is showing the option to "remove Sub", likely indicating that it knows that the Sub is there.

I've also tried toggling Sub Audio on and off and have it (temporarily) turned up to +15 on Sub Level to see if I can get anything out of it. Nada.

I have NOT done any TruePlay calibration, as the room isn't set up yet. I want to get the system working first, then move furniture around.

What else can I do?

This is incredibly frustrating. I've had the same issue with my Sub 3, and I assumed there was some kind of hardware issue with it. I guess maybe it's working fine, but Sonos' software continues to shit the bed.

I have an Eero Pro 7 in the same room as my main router (not hardwired to either the Ultra or Sub) and 2 Eero Pro 6s in other rooms.

Sonos Beam 2, send it back?

I bought a Beam 2 during Prime Days for a simple living room setup. We watch news,TV series and occasional movie. We need Amazon Alexa in this room.

Now facing the “Sonos crackling speaker” issue which seems to be attributed to WiFi interference. It occurs randomly and annoyingly even for audio source via HDMI. Really don’t want to bother fixing the Sonos problem only to have it appear again after the return period expires.

The Yamaha SR-X50A looks attractive for use with our Samsung Frame.

Opine please — I just want a simply life with reasonable audio that fits on the mantle!

Continuous uninterrupted play?

To help my two cats during the fireworks today I’d like to have my Sonos system playing music all day while we are away.

Is there a way to play it all day without it timing out and doing an “Are you there?” type of thing?

I have Apple Music available but willing to subscribe to something for the day to accomplish this.

TIA

Anyone else's sonos shat the bed today?

Mine had been working without much of an issue for ages, now today all of a sudden it's an absolute mess, can't stream radio because it complains there's issues with the WiFi all of a sudden, random speakers dropping out, if it does eventually work it stops to buffer constantly.

Gave up and ended up using my AVR to stream which seemingly had no issues at all.

Even restarted my entire WiFi and switch stack just to make sure... Still struggling.

Wireless to Wired

I’m thinking of buying a WiFi to wired adapter and connecting it to a router in my living room, then running cat5e cables to my Sonos speakers in the living room as well as my TV and other devices. Has anyone tried this to see if it improves the performance of the Sonos speakers, reducing cutouts and connectivity issues?

Sonos plug adapter Vs USB C wall socket

My Sonos Move 2 (UK) has worked for the last year with the usb cable for the dock plugged directly into a USB C wall socket. All of a sudden recently my dock has stopped charging unless I use the Sonos USB C plug adapter and plug the dock into that.

Any ideas why this has happened? I have a few Move 2s and the same thing happens with my other units and I get warnings that the charger suddenly isn't the right power when plugged directly into the wall. Annoyingly I have misplaced one of the plugs so I am having to rotate charging, do I just need to go out and buy a replacement Sonos branded USB C wall adapter?

iPad Mini as a Dedicated Sonos 1 Controller

Has anyone tried this? What generation of the Mini should I use? I want to avoid the 2027 update which will kill the Sonos 1 app. Thanks.

Every time I open the app I receive the same message. I’m logged in, definitely have a system and have used it successfully on the app previously, am on the same wifi network, upgraded my app, logged out, back in, changed passwords, done it all. But still get this message.

Sonos was once good. Now not so much.

I built my own version of "Trueplay"

Hey everyone,
happy 4th of July Weekend!

I built my own version of trueplay for my self hosted music server app called moosic. This honestly was probably the hardest endeavor i have ever taken up in software. I wanted to be able to play lossless to my sonos speakers while also being able to apply my own EQ settings. In my app i have a pretty decent EQ setup but i also have a convolution engine, which allows me to literally measure the room just like trueplay does. As we all know, airplay is not lossless and trueplay is proprietry and cannot be applied through the api. In order to get this to work properly i had to essentially setup the phone as a proxy. So my app will pull songs through the phones inside of a proxy, it will apply the DSP tap and/or room measurements to the track and then send that to the sonos speaker. You can set a correction for every room that will auto apply based on what speakers/group you connect to. I have been pretty happy with it! Id love if some of you gurus out there to give the room correction a try and let me know what you think. Im honestly very curious of this communities opinion. Is this a good replacement/workaround for trueplay?

NOTE: for anyone that wants to play around with it:

-you have to enable "DSP Sonos" in settings first. its off by default because it can chew battery quicker than traditionally allowing sonos to pull directly from the server. The phone is doing the work as a proxy.

-once thats enabled, connect to the speaker or group you want to correct and run the room correction. :)

my app can be installed through test flight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/kvhZpAJT

i also have a reddit community for all of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/MoosicLab/

Sonos/Alexa help....can't figure it out

Hey all. I'm pretty technical but cannot solve this one. I updated to S2 finally and also running Alexa+. I have a group of 3 speakers, that play music when I ask Alexa to do it. (none of the sonos have Alexa built in). ever since the update when I ask Alexa, music will either play on 2 of the speakers, or the 3rd. Sonos shows them all grouped either way. but volume will only come out of 2 or the 1. no idea why. if I ungroup and regroup, still nothing. this is ONLY when I play asking Alexa to play music.

they are set as preferred speakers in the group. I have disabled and reenable the skill, deregistered devices, deleted devices, rebooted them, removed the group, renamed the group, taken the Alexas out of the group, etc. If I play directly from the Sonos app, everything works fine. Sonos tried everything and says it's an Alexa issue, which currently are zero help. so I am here. any help is very much appreciated.

New to Sonos

I’m new to the Sonos family. I recently bought the Arc Ultra, 2 Era 100’s and the sub mini. The arc ultra states its playing Dolby Atmos but the rear Eras say home theater 2.0 same as the sub. Is that normal for full Dolby experience? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
